I listened to this as soon as you posted it, & have several times since, but struggled to put any kind of appreciation into words. This is a great cover because it does the original SO much justice, but, it’s still totally you. I can hear *you* in your playing. That’s special. 😊 not everybody can achieve that. Señorita’s singing was gorgeous alongside the Epi Acoustic. I’m sure that I’ll listen to this just as often as your other beautiful covers. Both your original music & your covers are so amazing and I’m grateful whenever you share them with us. I’m sure that Mr. Lightfoot is very proud. As ever & always, thank you, Hank. 💕

I don't think there could be a better tribute or more heartfelt rendition of this song. It is played with emotion and soul. The plucking sound of the strings adds the personal feel that is so often removed in songs. Acoustic songs move me because the raw sound raises the song (whether full song or improv) to a different level. You can hear the feeling in the playing and that is what makes it so special. This is a beautiful tribute and I'm certain he is proud, listening in the great beyond. ♥️

When doing a completely acoustic version of a song that originally has vocals, it’s easy to fall into the musak swamp type trap. You don’t do that, Hank. I have always believed that the key to avoid creating a cover that is unbearably sugary sweet (go to the nearest lux hotel lobby where there’s someone “entertaining” the guests on a grand piano and you’ll understand what I mean) is to like the song enough to throw a little pain and roughness into the mix. You do that here, Hank, in the way you use the lower end strings on both guitars. In life, nothing is 100 % beautiful, not even love (maybe especially not love). The harmonies and the melody of If you could read my mind is pretty in itself. What it needs to be exquisite - in my opinion - is darkness and you gave it just that. You can hear that you like this song beyond it just being a pretty song and that you wanted to treat it the way it deserves to be treated. Lightfoot knew his shit and so do you. Well done.
