There are too many strange comments on this and I'm going to give you our reasons for the design Faun.
First of all I want to put things in context. The team of this Patreon is made up of 5 people. All 5 of us are entwined in very long relationships, some of us have children, but all of us have a very open mind. We are no longer fifteen years old, we are adult and thoughtful people.
And by NO means does Lastsword support sexist or degrading behaviors in REAL life.
However, as adults we are tired of the social double standard in many respects. This is a fantasy world, a beautiful magical amazing world, but like all worlds and places it can be cruel, dark, twisted and different. The game has societies that practice racial segregation and even genocide, one little breast appears and people start confusing the fantasy world we create with the real world we live in.
At Last Sword we are sculpting miniatures for a fantasy world. Our ultimate goal is to see our complete vision for the fantasy world come to life. To reach our ultimate goal of bring this world to life we have filled it with many strange and diverse aspects.
This world and aesthitcs we use for our miniatures has a classic look and feel to it. But, it will also be violent, it will have darkness steeped in realism and some parts will be very raw. Many of the societies in this "FANTASY" world could be sexist or even homophobic, if that is the specific lore that is appropriate. I am not sure this matters but to give everyone some context, I am Gay... I am not attracted to the female sex, nor in sexualizing women and certainly not in promoting homophobia.
What we will not do is become close minded, it will hurt the overall theme and feeling of the world. It will dull the world down making it boring and bland, we want to explore as many intersting ideas and paths as we can, nudity is one of them. We will use it when we consider it necessary for the lore of the game. We differentiate between morals in the game world, and in the real world, and we hope that as adults you will be able to do the same.
That said, I'm going to explain yesterday's Faun warrior.
Lets begin with some background. A lot of the civilizations that we are depicting in the game world are sexist or patriarchal. But the Faun is a wood elf and they are a matriarchal society.
We are not being all that original in this aspect, we have based on Celtic mythology, with Titania (Sarthas) and her consort Oberon (Dantae) as a backdrop.
So it is one of the few armies in which we are going to represent a considerable force of women. And the women are going to wear exactly the same type of clothing, armor and weaponry as the men.
In history there are very few women fighting in medieval-ancient settings. Most are nobles taking care of family possessions. They generally wear too much armor to represent a light troop such as dancers.
Researching women warriors, we found some intersting things. In Rome there were many female warriors, that were of Celtic origin. Women did not fight in the regular army they did not have a place, the did however fight as gladiators.
And in a way it was perfect, women were very agile fighters, wearing very little armor, they almost always went into battle bare-breasted or completely nude. Nudity in this case does not serve us any purpose among fauns, it complicates things to have to generate a racial identity and unite them to the elves through clothing.
But fighting bare-chested is interesting on all levels. It makes sense in the type of unit they represent, but more importantly, it makes sense in the society we want to represent. Where women are equal, or even superior, and are not ashamed of any attribute, but display them as a symbol of their social position. This all came together perfectly to represent the Faun miniature, it is realistic, thoughtful and raw. Just what we were looking for. This did not happen on a whim with reckless abandon.
A good friend used to tell me : "there is no sin in things, it is in the eyes that look at them". Every day I subscribe more and more to his thought.
We have made the Faun this way beacause it is part of the world we want to create. We at Last Sword are creators by passion. We are always exploring and pushing the boundaries in so many different ways. It is in our DNA to explore new, exciting and dangerous ways to push our limits while expanding out our miniatures and amazing "FANTASY" world.
I hope you understand what I mean. It is a very complex text, especially when it is not written in your language.

Hay demasiados comentarios al respecto y os voy a dar nuestros motivos. Sera la última vez que lo haga.
Antes de nada quiero poner en contexto las cosas. El equipo de este Patreon lo conforman 5 personas. Las 5 con relaciones de pareja muy largas, algunos con niños, y todos con una mentalidad muy abierta. Ya no somos quinceañeros, somos gente adulta y reflexiva. Y en ningún caso se apoyan desde Lastsword comportamientos machistas o denigrantes en la vida real.
Ahora bien, como personas adultas estamos cansados de la doble moral social a muchos respectos. NO puede ser, que en el juego sean aceptables sociedades que practican la segregación racial e incluso el genocidio, y cada vez que aparece un pecho tengamos un montón de comentarios quejándose.
En Last Sword estamos creando miniaturas para un mundo de fantasía. En estos primeros pasos las miniaturas son elegidas para que puedan encajaros en otros reglamentos, pero el fin último es tener nuestro propio mundo.
Y ese mundo será clásico, en lo que refiere a los planteamientos de la fantasía que nos gusta. Pero también será violento, oscuro y por necesidades de realismo y crudeza muchas de las sociedades que representemos serán machistas u homófobas. Y estas líneas os las escribe un Gay que no tiene ni interés en el sexo femenino, ni en sexualizar las mujeres y desde luego en promover la homofobia.
Lo que no podemos hacer es renunciar a muchos elementos que consideramos interesantes en el entorno de juego o de la escultura. Y la desnudez es uno de ellos. Y lo usaremos cuando consideremos necesario. Nosotros diferenciamos entre la moral en el mundo de juego, y en el mundo real, y esperamos que como adultos seáis capaces de hacer lo mismo.
Dicho esto voy a explicar la guerrera Fauno de ayer.
Para empezar, vamos a hablar un poco de trasfondo. La mayoría de civilizaciones que vamos a representar en el mundo de juego son civilizaciones machistas o patriarcales. Pero concretamente la del elfo Silvanos no lo es. Esta si será Matriarcal

Por lo tanto es de los pocos ejércitos en los que vamos a representar una fuerza considerable de mujeres. Y las mujeres van a lucir exactamente el mismo tipo de ropas, armaduras y armamento que los hombres.
En la historia hay muy pocas mujeres que combatan en entornos medievales-antiguos. La mayoría son nobles haciéndose cargo de las posesiones familiares. Generalmente usan demasiada armadura para representar una tropa ligera como los bailarines.
Investigando sobre mujeres guerreros, encontramos la solución que necesitábamos. En Roma si había muchas guerreras. Y encima de origen celta. Pero no en un ejército regular, donde la mujer no tenía cabida. Las mujeres luchaban como gladiadores.
Y en cierto modo era perfecto, porque son combatientes muy agiles, que usan muy poca armadura. Y siempre combatían con los pechos al aire. E incluso desnudas.
La desnudez en este caso no nos sirve a ningún propósito entre los faunos, pues nos complica generar una identidad racial y unirlos a los elfos a través de la ropa.
Pero el combatir con el pecho al aire es interesante a todos los niveles. Tiene sentido en el tipo de unidad que representan, pero más importante, tiene sentido en la sociedad que queremos representar. Donde la mujer es igual o incluso superior y no se avergüenza de ningún atributo, si no que los exhibe como símbolo de su posición social.
La cuadratura perfecta a las necesidades que teníamos para la miniatura. Realista, meditado y crudo. Lo que buscamos. No hay azar ni un antojo.
Un buen amigo me decía que no hay pecado en las cosas, si no en los ojos que miran. Cada día suscribo más su pensamiento.
Dicho esto me gustaría no tener que volver a dar explicaciones a este respecto. Hacemos así las cosas porque son los pasos que nos llevan al juego que queremos construir. Está en el ADN de Last Sword.
Espero que nadie se sienta ofendido con esto.

I don't especially like the model myself for other reasons but when you go to the museum, do you ask for the paintings with bare breasts to be covered? That's called censorship. In my country, we stopped that non-sense centuries ago! Not satisfied with the mini? Don't print it. They are plenty of minis with covered breasts.

Hello. I am sad to read this text. But in my opinion, a good answer would be, ok we heard, we are working for you, our subscribers and we will make an option where the chest will be covered too. I don't have an issue with breasts on display, I just think the fauns would look better with a breastplate or armour. Just a design preference for me.

I liked your celtic theme from the beginning. If your enemy disregards the dangers of combat so much that he or she shows up naked and hiped is a terrifying image. And in practical terms: modeling realistic looking breasts in 32mm is very hard, covering breasts with green stuff by modeling some coth is quite doable. Thanks for your hard work.

I'm not offended by bare breasts at all, and I applaud artistic freedom - that said, personally, I would still prefer to have the option of a covered variant for aesthetic, thematic and practical reasons. I love the idea of a fully R rated model gallery set in a grim-dark universe, but also I think having a "PG" version for those wanting to use these models around younger family members or in public gaming events is more practical. More options is always good right? But I would never ask you to remove a model for nudity - that's entirely your artistic choice.

There is another angle to this case-meaning, people now expect you to fulfill their own desires and visions when designing things. They dont understand the fundamental point that this isnt „order your own mini” club. There is a certain vision behind every designer and you either take it as it is /not to give away the right to criticise/ or you can always unsubscribe it and search for a creator who is closer to your own heart. I personally love that lads here are not just „we’lldo nicer gw figures” kind of studio, but have the whole new universum in mind, gradually revealing it to us. Having said that, as a psychologist i can gues why the faun was so controversial. It is the masculin face and pose /lack of well developed hips/ combined with feminin feature such as breasts gives a mam a cognitive discomfort. Just my opinion

Well as it came to this, at first I apologize my very badly argumented comment from yesterday. I sincerely though that this teaser wardancer was/is a male! Of course you as an artist have a right and should be true to your vision true. For your fantastic models we follow you and thank you for that! Still as your followers we have our own tastes and preferences and to my eye this particular model has lots of clothing and strangely a huge cap just on the breast area. As a father of two children feel responsibility over my miniatures and what is shown in our vitrine. Breasts are fine, nudity is fine and in this case still this feels a bit weird choice to me in this particular model. Do we really need political correctness or social justice here, aren’t those concepts dividing people enough in other areas? I think for us patreons this is a way to enjoy our life through your amazing miniatures. All in all these are taste preferences and this has been and still is my most waited KS this spring so keep up the good work as you have done! We’re eagerly waiting for wood elves :) Sincerely Mika

Part of being a designer is going with your vision even if people don't agree with all of it. Heck how many of us are here just because we don't like some of the design choices and styles of armies from other manufacturers and designers. In the end find your designs, do your styles and stick to your guns as much as you can is what I'd say. PEople will always find something to dislike or such; just as they'll always find things that they really love. That said I think one of the big powers of stl provision over physical models is the opportunity to provide alternatives. This might be one of those cases where you've got your vision for something, but where you can also provide for the vision and desires of your customers with modified versions. A simple sash or covering so that people of both camps can be happy with what they've got. Plus I'd also say don't forget that even the big names - GW for example - have bare chests here and there (Diaz style Deamonettes were all bare chested; Daughters of Khaine have one exposed breast on their bloodwrack and fiends have - er - many exposed.

For clarification, I don't think people are offended by the bare breasts. It's simply an aesthetic choice many of us don't like. I understand and agree that you guys can and should do whatever you like design wise. Some of just would prefer full clothed or armored figures. Personally I think the breasts being cut away is jarring since the rest of the model is wearing armor. That being said I do like other aspects of the model. The weapon and armor design is very interesting and unique.

These products exist in our world in a community that generally is not as inclusive of women as it should be. That said, I’m not against things like this being manufactured but I generally don’t support them. Perhaps an alternative sculpt for your fans who like the model but not the nudity would help. Not everyone wants bare breasted women on their painting table.

as end user we give our opinions. I can understand uour point and you can do whatever you want creatively , but implying people are close minded or not adult for not wanting nudity in a tabletop game, thats a lack of understanding to part of your backers also. Still love your work, not so much the message.

It is art, it should be free to whatever the artists feels. As observers we can only say if we like or dislike, do not impose your will on how an artist should or shouldn't portray their work. I personally would love to see a full Monty of this mini, to me it just seems natural that he would be armour free, although I do like the ivy leaves on the mini.
I would say 4 patreons commenting negative about 1 single model out of 362 patreons is a rather small percentage of your community. Please dont change anything, its your artistic playground, keep it like that.
