Pfffttt

of those, the acrid smell has already been resolved, with the edit to the chapter. #5 isn't really foreshadowing, but an issue that was already resolved. #1 and #4 are connected, and not really separate plots, as the sect is searching for Jin because of his grandpa. It did get a bit sprawling, yeah, and I think I did spend a bit too much setting things up, but I have realigned a little, and am pushing things forwards.

Another 'kind of' subplot i forgot about is the whole interlude/pov shift with washy, he's been out of the story for i don't know how many chapters, with Jin mentioning him on occasion. While i enjoyed the diversion and the pov shift when i read it, i honestly see no point in removing him for so long from the story; without revisiting him in another pov shift. Also if it just ends up with ANOTHER subplot (the turtles master was mentioned iinm), then it's starting to get spread way too thin with all the plotlines. And on the other hand, if he just kind of gets returned to the story without any significant impact on the story, then it's just "what was the point in the first place then?". I honestly believe you're shooting yourself in the foot with that whole washy + turtle left turn. It should've been resolved much faster, or just kept as a fun "interlude-ish" kind of thing. Now -i at least- expect something to come of it, and it's kind of not gonna live up to any expectations i might've had surrounding it. It'll be "meh whatever" for me no matter the result at this point i think, just tbh.

Thanks for the chapter, i just wanna air my thoughts about the story for a bit: While i REALLY enjoy your writing, and i love all the characters etc. I feel like the story needs to pick up the pace soon-ish. Slice of life is fine, but when a story is set in a 'fantasy' world with an MC who knows magic/cultivation but doesn't dive into it at all, and a story that has at least 3 examples of different subplots having been foreshadowed, without any further progression being made on/with them. I'm referring to: 1) The grandpa/whatever he was; of the 'original' body of jin fighting demons on some front line and it being more difficult than normal/seeing an increase in activity. 2) The "young master" possessed by some evil entity, who's out for revenge. 3) The sect searching for Jin, without having any knowledge of his theoretical 'power level'. Then -for me at least- it starts to feel dragged out. We have had like 10 chapters of pure slice of life with a couple of -very- interesting chapters about the sect and those 3 masters meeting eachother on the mountain. There has literally not been any 'action' since Big D's fight with Sun Ken. And while i am fully aware that this is not an ordinary all-action-but-no-substance xian xia (which is part of why i think this is among the best xian xia -if not THE best- that i've read). I believe having 3 subplots that gets no attention, a 'magic' system that has had literally zero explanations, or info with regards to, and having no 'plot progression' besides slice of life happenings; is starting to ruin it for me. Please think about taking advantage of the foundation you've already laid with the foreshadowed stuff already in the story; the acrid smell stuff i read comments about, is yet ANOTHER foreshadowing, while none of the stuff that has already been foreshadowed has had any meaningful progress or reveals for a long time. There's also a 'kind of' foreshadowing with Jin imagining "roots that destroy cities" -or however it was worded- that has been mentioned on multiple occasions. Just my thoughts, i love the story, but please lmk what you think of my thoughts about all of this :)

Thanks for the chapter! I think the chapters work fine as-is, but if you think of a better way while laying in bed, feel free to try it out! But don't worry about it too much. :D

BaguaBrady

I mean, he seems proud of the sign

Sg

loved the fact that Meiling started out getting dolled up before she finally came to her senses and went to the lady as herself in her own clothes and no makeup, showing those lovely freckles.

Ed

I do not think Bi De would be thrilled about being referred to as a chicken. Lol

Imspinnennetz

We now need a scene between the two proper ladies of Azure hill: the magistrate's wife and Pi Pa.

BaguaBrady

Agreed with the first part, I was confused, was it the ease of removing make up? The presence she exhudes in simple farm clothes now that she has qi? The clout to talk to lady Magistrate dressed as a farmer? All of the above? It's unclear and caused me to pause and search for clues in the rest of the scene.

Termac

I mean, I agree that it seems good enough as is to me, but every time CF has rearranged/rewritten stuff out it seemed to both flow and fit better.

Michael Maor

“That is very, very unfair, Meimei.” She managed to get out. I wonder what she was seeing there. Meiling's conversation with the Magistrate's wife seems very well done and realistic, except that the contrast between it and the conversations Jin had with the Magistrate were jarring. Yes Jin wasn't someone they knew for years, but still...

Stephen Pearson

Thanks for the chapter! :-)

Casualfarmer

This is actually something else, foreshadowing.

PlasmaticPi

You really need to stop doubting yourself so much. These chapters fit fine where they are, as they are.

Imspinnennetz

Does the "acrid scent" indicate that Jin's gift of Qi infused foods to the magistrate and his wife are turning them into cultivators as well?

Obran

Never mind. Found it.

Obran

I am trying to remember where Jin defeated the Wicked Blade. Does anybody know the chapter?

Robert Mullins

Her normal clothes.

Deltoren

Now i really want to know what outfit meiling wore

wanderer117

I liked the 'cliff' Meiling felt when she got the invitation from the magistrate's wife. I guess you could still keep that if both parts were in the same chapter, but it's also fine as is.

Kristof Dohrmann

Great, as always. I really like seeing more of meiling away from Fa Ram.

Jacob

Whoo early chapter thanks

aj0413

While the execution left something to be desired, you conveyed the heart of what you wanted I think.

Bbyh

Not sure how strictly court decorum was adhered to in out of the way provinces.

Bbyh

I liked it.

HeartoCourage2

I normally don't comment. I think that the conversation with the magistrate's wife, and more specifically her laughter, could be toned down. I don't think a "noble" lady would be pounding a table with her fist. Maybe unconstrained, soft laughter, but not the wild, rampaging laughter. The tone, at least for me doesn't fit the character of a noble lady, at least one somewhat skilled in court decorum and politics. Now, if that's what you were aiming for, if makes for a pretty bipolar character, but you're the author. Just my opinion.
