“Something something two feet”

D J Meigs

It does show he has some self control. But the most relevant part to me was the healer’s surprise, he was expecting a casualty. That tells me that this guy has never felt the need to hold back his impulses before. I don’t trust that what made him hold back was his own intent. I’m thinking either he knows the elders will stop him if he goes all out from the beginning and he won’t get a chance to get to the good fights (though I feel like the elders wouldn’t care with this batch of disciples) or he’s been given some other task by someone more powerful than himself and crippling people so soon would get in the way of his mission somehow.

John D Jones

I think the thing with Zang Sheng is that he is or was an arrogant brutal Young Master. But he's also just come out of a period of Closed Door Cultivation. The most relevant passage to me was:
Bi De remained standing, his eyes focused on the man before him. He could see a spark, a desire to crush Bi De for his impudence. Sheng wanted to hurt him. Yet that glow in his eyes faded after a moment. “So, you’re the gardener, hmm? I shall allow you to retain the use of your hands, despite looking at me with those impudent eyes,” he stated, and then turned his back on Bi De.
I think the glow fading is showing Sheng exercising self-control to push down part of himself that would hurt someone for being "impudent." I think he made his threat to see if Bi De would back down or cower back. I think Sheng turned his back to see if Bi De would foolishly attack him in a rage. Neither of those things happened, so Bi De probably just scored some "respect points" with Zang Sheng.

I half suspect that the Young Master is going to reflect SMS as a whole in some ways: pompous, arrogant, and opulent, but nonetheless someone who DOES act righteously…sometimes, at least. I don’t think he’s going to be well-meaning but exhausted like Lishu, but he isn’t going to be like Zhong and see an asset to the Sect as a threat to be suppressed.

Marcin

In the very begining of the chapter the victim was decided... he plays fun games till Bi De arrives.

Less of an asshole than I thought but if I was to take a guess as to why he's being so "nice" I'd say that he might just be under orders of the leaders of the sect to shape up the cultivators like a Drill Sargent. The Mountain Sect might be corrupt and downright evil at times but they do take their job of protecting the land pretty seriously and they're currently at war with demonic cultivators under "orders" of the cloudy sword sect. They don't need a young master to go and kill their future soldiers, they need them to be stronger than they are right now considering just how bloody their secret war has been.

Demian Buckle

Thank you for the Chapter. Glad you are feeling better. Your health comes first, take the time you need.

I much more so believe that he too can thanks to Bi De herbs resist the demonic taint therefore his change in character. He may have been more like this once before one of his two companions became a demon (I assume)

Just A Dude

Huh... Sheng isn't nearly as much of an asshole as expected. Still an arrogant prick, mind you, but he's gone from me wanting to see him broken and cast off the tallest cliff of the mountain to simply wanting to see his ego popped.

Nemo

Wasnt there a thing about how foxes can not use lightning qi specifically?

Road Trips

Just a guess but I wonder if this is Nezan. What better person to disguise as but a guy who’s been in closed-door cultivation. He’ll be in the ideal position to make sure Yun Gen’s message isn’t interrupted.
