"like a mountain trying to rip free from the firmament. " you are aware that the word "firmament", counter intuitive as it may seem, actually refers to the sky, right? Specifically it is the dome of the sky, the vault of the heavens, upon which the gods make their homes and look down at the earth.

Lance Platt

Others have pointed out the usage issues with affect/effect and ferment/foment, but it also seems like firmament was used in the wrong sense. It would make more sense to say the firmament was ripped from the mountains, since in the cosmology in which the firmament exists, mountains might be the pillars supporting it. If you want to go for a poetic/historical conception of geology and still make analogy to moving mountains, I’d suggest something like “uprooting” the mountains instead.

Sean Fleenor

You are technically correct when you say "foment"; however, I invite you to consider the process of fermentation. It translates well when applied to revolution. Take quality ingredients, add a corrupting influence, get an unholy mess, apply heat, and distill something new/better out of it.

Eric Manwill

"fermenting sedition" should be "fomenting sedition". Easy mistake there, "foment" isn't exactly in common use.

Demian Buckle

Thank you for the Chapter.

Well done there's so much you can do with this now that you can correlate the past with the present and yet not reveal everything right away it will make for some interesting reading At least we know it was a slow process that happened over time

Love this

Where can I find a link to the Discord?

Gigifiy

Oh noes, the Winter Soldier program is growing! Who will stop Hydra!?!

Randall Norman Pick

Given the Qi is off an 'element' was noted previously I want to assume a well meaning attempt to improve the reservoirs and circulation went terribly wrong. I hope so, over a betrayal

Thanks for the hard work and hope you had a great break. Just wanted to point out one error I saw. "Bi De stated wearily, as he hopped into his Lord’s shoulder." Ouch.... That gotta hurt his shoulder something fierce if he jumped INTO and not onto his shoulder.

WarStrider72

Thanks for the chapter boss!

They've already said the formation was an attempt to empower "something," but went wrong somehow. I suspect the formation and associated dances were created in an effort to either augment Tianlan's dragon veins and artificially enhance her power, or the spiralling nature was an effort to allow her to more quickly cycle her qi, to cultivate and grow faster. This second idea is drawn from her attempting to cycle here and the feeling of wrongness before her body starts to crack, compared to the description we got in a previous chapter that described the moment the formation activated and how she felt before and during her breaking.

Owl Face

Judging from her reactions in earlier chapters, I'm guessing that it started consensually, but Xiaoshi and his contemporaries slowly began to demand more and more until Tianlan was completely bled dry whether she wanted or not.

Archyonx

Nah, she is literally the azure hills, so she probably twisted herself until she broke.

Teatime42

Betting it was due to the whole "That path doesn't lead to immortality" that his and the MC has, and needing to ensure that the new empire he built lasted.

Bonifacio Mario Peña Jr.

I hope that Bi De doesn't become too suspicious of the empire/emperor. For all their similarities. Only one guy has done business with the Azure Trade company and has a long suffering magistrate for a tutor.

SuperiorFreak

I thought in a previous chapter it was hinted at that Xiaoshi betrayed Tianlan for some reason.

Tom Roettger

So Tianlan broke herself giving everything to Xiaoshi, or she was broken in the following war...and the Azure Hills broke with her?
