I want the emperor to get addicted to maple syrup

a polite fiction to those without true strength that the Emperor’s power was absolute", Very interesting that we get this description of the Emperor being a near absolute god... and having several members in the upper clans quite capable of killing him at the apex of his power. I enjoy it, but man if the city didn't feel beyond fucking huge. Awesome

Personally, I love the fluff. It is the reason I started reading BoC and the reason I joined on patreon. It is very much what was advertised and the epic story sometimes feels more out of place than this.

BelligerentGnu

Right now, I'm pretty sure Casualfarmer is using fluffy slice-of-life and interludes to give himself time to properly plot out the action of book 3. We'll get there.

BelligerentGnu

So fucking HYPE~ Also, this: “Like fine wine? You look the the ass of a Crag Turtle.” is amazing.

So the strength of the empire to handle the real ambition of the demons is in question and the emperor is indirectly aware of Jin this could go so many ways Jin already expressed that he had fulfill his dreams of being a farmer so hopefully we can progress with the story and not get caught up doing more of the same just bigger and better slice of life is fine as long as it isn't over killed

I think Fengyan forgets that, like the Phoenix whose name his empire carries, sometimes old greatness must die in fire so new glory can be born from the ashes.

Daniel Gesualdi

That would be thematically appropriate and I expect that this gramps will be begging him for mead and to start growing grapes for wine.

taukid

Maybe he was possessed by Lu Ban's master

Qahlz

Could also be his parenting skills

Ah people complaining how the book starts and feels aimless … Brings me back to volume 2 first chapters commentary section.

Some of the best stories ever written have been like this. Maybe the problem, from your perspective, is how they've all been back to back before diving into the next main Arc. Do you think it might have come across a bit different if there had been 2 or 3 main chapters before touching base with these side stories? Then again, this one in particular is actually a prologue to the next Arc, cause Gramps is going to go to Jin, so it needed to happen first. (According to the author's note last chapter.)

BlueMage_VT

It will be months before Little De gets his permanent name, maye if he gets to meed his grandfather, "Yu"? Rou Yu?

W. Randy Hoffman

I guess "dias" (for "dais") is going to be another CFism that I'll just have to get used to alongside "startle" (for "start").

Moonspike

I have been thinking for awhile that it is the cast size. We get interlude after interlude, sometimes back to back, from the various side characters. Don't get me wrong they are all well written but taking the time to flesh that many characters out distracts from the main plot. The bad thing is that I like pretty much everybody, especially the pointless ones like Vajra, but the story lately has been far from cohesive.

Andrew Denton

"And for your crimes, you shall be sent to a farm in the Azure Hills..."

Cindermoth

Honestly, I suspect that root Jin found at the start will somehow be the key to improve for the emperor.

Kat

This chapter is amazing!

Michael Foat

Fa Ram will be that sect of crazies that no one in or out of the Empire wants to deal with

Bonifacio Mario Peña Jr.

Bi DE shall be the first Lunar emperor! TIGU SHALL BE SHOUNEN PROTAG EMPERESS!

Christopher Thomas

because Politics is a bitch. And the Emperor has to deal with making the hard choices from the very top, where the buck stops. And if it's a choice between his friend and the Empire, he's gonna choose the Empire. And remember, they live a LONG time, so it's entirely possible that SOMETHING could come up that makes him have to choose between the two.

Mondred

Why would shen yu and the emperor have to kill each other?

carebear90

No. But he could romance a crimson phoenix? I mean... asian phoenixes are quite different from western ones anyways... more like flaming peacocks. It would definitely fit. :D

Nemo

Lu Ri is my favourite person. I'm not even kidding. If Chunky or Lu Ri have to die and I'm deciding their fate, Chunky is getting a bullet and I will die without regrets, consumed by Peppa.

CrimsonEclipse

I think it's because we're back to the building up phase, setting up stuff for the latter part of Season 3

CrimsonEclipse

My only solace is that Bi De can't be the Crimson Phoenix, since he's already moon themed ahahahaha

Giovanni Paches

Man, what if Shen Bu got possessed by a demon? And unlike the demon that was definitely killed by the MC, thus one escaped and is the leader of the demon cultivators? Honestly might not be too far off if we're just basing on Cultivator cliches

KnightRider007

"Close enough to a god-given flesh." => This should very specifically NOT have a hyphen. With the hyphen, it means "The flesh was given BY a god". Without the hyphen, it means "a god [who was] given flesh", which is the intention here.

Randall C

I have a cure for your bottle neck, just a little maple syrup will do...

Collateral_ink

I love reading this story, and your work is getting better as you go from a command of language standpoint. However, Book 3 so far has felt pretty aimless. It's just kinda been meandering forward for a while now. Don't get me wrong, I love what's been written, and I'm sure not going to stop reading (and neither will the vast majority of your readers, I believe), but there is a lacking focus. With Book 1, the focus was on building the farm, Jin settling into his new life, his burgeoning love with Meiling, etc. Book 2 was less cohesive, but still had a solid forward momentum. This one...not so much. Not yet, anyway. I think part of the problem is that the story scope has grown to such a point over the course of the last two books that it feels as if you're scrambling to touch base with all these various plot threads. Some consolidation is needed, perhaps. Just my two cents; as I've said, I love this story and you're doing a great job. You keep writing, I'll keep reading. Joyously.

BargleNawdleZouss

Please do NOT put Jin on the path to becoming the Crimson Phoenix Emperor, nor to be his rival. Or Bi De, for that matter! :-)

“Leave the Empire more powerful than you inherited it,” had been his father’s last comman. The Mailman & The Farmer: We gotchu, fam.
