Matt Grayson

Auto-correct really hates "deferential". It keeps changing it to "differential". I suspect that happens to you, CF.

Randall Brynsvold

Lu Ri is closest in character to Choji in Naruto's generation, and adult Iruka in the previous generation, especially since both Lu Ri and Iruka are teachers without grand ambitions who are kind to the main character.

Thunderhoof

Lu Ri is like Gaara.

D J Meigs

I don’t know, Neji has a lot of pent up anger and Lu ri is more of a team player than Neji ever was. Weirdly enough I’d say Shikamaru once he stops being lazy gives me more Lu Ri vibes.

taukid

All these places are going to be stops on the Plum-ny Express. How else will Jin keep a supply of that sauce?

linkhyrule5

> bowing his head differentially. Deferentially In which Jiraiya and ... uh... You know, there's actually not a lot of Naruto characters straight-laced enough to be Lu Ri? Neji. Jiraiya and Neji. Man, that would be a *weird* fic...

HawkwardEgal

" Lu Ri watched as the last of his maple syrup disappeared. …he regretted telling Shen Yu about it now. " Mood.

Thiemo Guenther

Plenty more where that came from, now that they reached Fa Ram. Assuming all goes well with the reunion, and no acrimony develops over possible philosophical differences.

Thiemo Guenther

@Bargle- love the Weird Al tribute

Bille

He had stated that he was right that he was an imposter not in the actual way that he was an imposter.

BossDawg

Nah man, Lu Ri's going to be bff's withe Pi Pa. Training arc for her in courtesy.

Arin Storm

I hope we do get an explanation as to why Meimei is able to smell qi someday. Neither her brother or father can do it, if her mother could that knowledge is inaccessible for now, and we have never learned of anyone else with the same ability. It would be interesting to learn what's different about her.

paul Emmer

I love stories that aren't predictable here we are 3 books in with no real sense where things are going

paul Emmer

Ultimately the only real connection between Jin and the empire are the demons who implied the latest battle was a side thing and not their main ambition so the empire will need a new plan of attack to deal with the real threat when they become aware of it. I believe fa ram is the key to this. so let's see how this all plays out

paul Emmer

So to recap the demons real plan, in part, was inadvertently unveiled by Jin in the man he called an imposter; that he ultimately killed. So the question is - did Jin sense he was an imposter without realizing it or was it just an assumption he made that prove To be true: because he didn't realize his own abilities (as a cultivater in the making) I argue it could be both since Jin really doesn't know all of his own capabilities

Jojiro

Do you think Lu Ri would have been happy to hear Shen Yu's internal thoughts? Especially the part about "fitting in" during Shen Yu's time in the sect?

Jojiro

>“Was this the one?” The old man asked calmly. “Was this the beast that dared chase my grandson?” What in the world? He heard a rumor of something that happened over two years ago, and because it was his grandson, he decided to hunt down the beast and murder it? What if the rumor was incorrect, and it was in fact not this particular serpent? What if someone claimed that the serpent had attacked his grandson in order to con him into getting reagents for them? I find his reaction both hilarious and terrifying, both displaying impressive initiative and alarming haste.

Logrus

I hope Gramps arrival isn't too dramatic. IN the end, it seems like he wants Jin to be happy... but he might be slightly put off by the cultivation method Jin is using that *won't* lead to immortality. He might be upset to know Jin is going to die some day, while he will continue to live. Hopefully, Jin can convince him to watch over his family, spirit beasts and all!

Carl Mason

For me it breaks immersion when I have to go back and re-read something so that I can make sense of it as it is intended to be written, which, yes, detracts from the reading experience. Also, the author actually appreciates people calling out missed errors in the spelling, grammar, etc. of their story because they know (as do we all) that no editor is perfect, even a team of them is bound to miss stuff. Most authors do, in fact. It is especially annoying if that error makes it all the way through to publishing without being caught and ends up in the finished, released copy. Which used to almost never happen, but seems to be happening a lot now.

Len

for me occasionally a mispelling just irks me because things like that should have been caught during the edit/proofreading stage(i am talking published books) .. bear instead of bare, father instead of farther, things like that, on this site or royal road- i don't focus on mispelling since it is a work in progress. one story- not this one- the "proper" british" author used the word whilst...A LOT in the story. so much so, that it just got annoying.

Justin

Kudos to you for picking out this stuff. I read as intended not speeled ;) Question does the miss spelling take away from your reading experience? I luckily don't have that issue as I suck at spelling.

Carl Mason

So Meiling is recruited instead, wife and mother goes off to war, leaving her house-husband behind. Then she returns drunk and singing loudly and attempts to seduce her spouse while covered in road dirt and blood.

Michael Fannon

Gramps will love it all, especially when the special mead comes out.

Sebastian Osterbrink

It's more Tigu, Shen Yu and Damp Pond all three playing up the aloof master or mistress

Rakkis157

@BlueMage_VT IIRC Senior Disciple is an administrative role rather than one based on cultivation.

Jostikas

"bowed his head differentially" - > "deferentially".

Akki

I strangely hope Lu Ri evolves again by going to the Azure Hills. Last time he was shown just how the Cloudy Sword Sect was stagnating/declining and he had the idea of developing a proper postal service. This time I'd like him to realise there's more to life than just cultivating and the words of the founders, and naturally with that realisation comes breakthroughs.

Justin

I don't know if I can handle Tuesday if gramps only just gets to Fa Ram. But I won't be able to hold off reading Tuesday to wait for more chapters either. Great work again on the tour and duo to get there!

John Pratt

I think that the worst way Gramps could react is to kidnap Jin back to one of the central sects. I'm leaning towards the all-female Soaring Heavens Sect. That would give Bi Di and some retinue a reason to take a significant journey to the south at around the same time that the trading company Jin talks with will have put together the logistics for such a journey.

John Pratt

Shen Yu paid him back with high end tea leaves before the chapter ended.

John Pratt

I feel like Shen Yu taking such a liking to Lu Ri is foreshadowing a similar but more intense dynamic between Bi Di and Shen Yu

John Pratt

I don't think that it's particularly rare, but that what Jin has accomplished with it is beyond the scale of anything accomplished in living memory, such that it doesn't look like the Path of Shennong at first blush. The general idea being that most people who bind themselves to a spirit of nature bind themself to a tree or a pond, maybe a river at most, not the spirit of a forgotten nation.

John Pratt

Jin has no specific ability to sense demons. Jin generally has problems with sensing Qi in the same way other cultivators do, largely because his passive senses are plugged in to Tialan. And Tianlan has trouble sensing cultivators for the same sort of reason you might only notice an ant crawling on you after it's been happening for a while. Meiling does have a specific ability to sense demons, and it's apparently better than techniques built for that purpose.

neco

Finally got around and subscribed as a Patreon

StarBat

Shen Yu will love his new extended family. He was expecting a grandson, not an entire clan... Or a small farming sect.

Abby Normal

I really love the way this, lu ri's original journey to find jin, and of course jin's original journey out to the azure hills form a fascinating set of parallels as far as 'how different cultivators handle/view the things along this path"

Bryan Ortiz Ramos

Oh. The Plums. Yes, them. With the new information network and what has to go into it, Jin might be able to send the flower of that business to explore the world much sooner. I forget the name, but its the one that he ended up selling the gold grade rice to.

Bryan Ortiz Ramos

Perhaps. Though, the way that gramps was disappointed, initially, with hearing that Jin didn't sock it to the cultivators leads me to believe otherwise. Granted, gramps also noted how he was defying the heavens later in the chapter in that same situation. However, it feels as though Jin is always put in situations where the eventual outcome would be to change or question preconcieved notions or traditions and whatnot and delve deeper into that. Take Xiulan, Big D, and Tigger for example. Changing gramps' mind, and expanding Lu Ri's while he's at it, would fit right in with the story I feel. And though I said gramps would be furious, it would be more akin to disappointment and refusal to believe that this is now his grandson. Then gramps will figure out or find out that Jin has 2 souls or whatever, blame it on it being a hostile takeover or something, be proven otherwise, all while combating preconceived notions of what or who Jin should be. Though, it may also not be the case. What do I know lol

Will mILLER

Now to wait till Tuesday night

paul Emmer

So Jin is a different type a cultivator that seem to sence the demons that is over look by other sets; and the real threat the demons pose. Gramps might pick up on this ; which would put Jin front and center in dealing with it, if they are to avert the demons threat. Just a thought

Anonymous

And we might finally find out what that strange root is too!

Anonymous

Ha! I wanted gramps to know Washi's turtle and go visit for old time's sake. And he does because he stole peaches. He's going to be SO SURPRISED to find a frost chalice peach tree starting to grow on the farm.

William Matysik

Thank you for the chapter.

N0ct3m

oh grampa......its gonna be an amazing shock lol. Looking foreward as always. Thanks for the Chapter!

David Eddy

You’re really good at this!

C

More please

BargleNawdleZouss

I'm anticipating the father of Zang Li, spurred by his demon courtesan, will show up just before or after Shen Yu's arrival.

Victor Segura

This was so very good, but it reads withour hindsight almost like a tragedy, because rou is nothing like shen yu believes and it would be a shock to him

Whale A

I think Lu Ri is my favourite aro-ace character after Paksenerion

LenoraeKB

The whole chapter was great but Lu Ri's interaction with the courtesans was my favorite

Enochi

Amazing

zoli bassoff

He is already getting lots of personal training from a master. I would think he is ultimately happy with the situation

GuyWhoReadsALot

I'm so pumped for him to arrive!

taukid

Shen Yu will most likely pay him back

taukid

Omg, Lu Ri and Xiulan? That'd be great, 😂

taukid

I love this pair, it's like a buddy cop movie. I kinda just want to read about Shen Yu dragging Lu Ri on all these adventures, lol.

KnightRider007

I think a lot hinges on whether Shen Yu is familiar with the Path of Shennong. It’s entirely plausible that he is not - Nezan gives the impression it is exceedingly rare.

Pierre laplant

Almost there

CalvinCopyright

Holy shit, did no one catch this? > The old cultivator stared at her, before starting to roar with laughter. “How bold! I don’t mind it! I’ll be sure to tell my grandson about this beauty!” "I don't mind it"... Shen Yu channeling Tigu, here!

V

This was great, but Gramps ain't the only one getting impatient. The self-control to wait until all the chapters for the arc are out is non-existent.

Gabriel McCall

I LOVED THIS even more than usual. Lu Ri and Shen Yue buddy movie is amazing.

Michael Fannon

Well, Shen Yu will get a great granddaughter that loves to fight in Tigu and I have zero doubt he will love Meiling once she sings the donkey song.

Teh One & TrueTabi

This whets the appetite quite well! And Shen Yu putting Lu Ri both through his paces and toying with him is frankly incredibly amusing as all heck.

Benjamin Lawton

On the contrary. If you think about it, Jin is still very much "defying the heavens", just in a manner different than most – where most cultivators are basically trying to diss the heavens by stealing its stuff, Jin is instead going, "Anything you can do, I can do better."

Stav Tri

Hopefully that's the case, and also good thing meiling is now a cultivator (sorta?) now. Due to normal cultivator prejudice against humans. (Mind you, I'm thinking in the perspective of outside looking in xianxia world). Now, would shen yu hold true to the norms of a cultivator, since he trained what was basically a normal human as his new grandson? Especially considering the author loves to throw us for a loop? I highly look forward to the next chapter.

Umut Numanoglu

MC is Big D if it was not clear, it will be the fated meeting with MC very soon. ;D

Umut Numanoglu

I don't think he is in Sky Realm but in Earth Realm, in upper parts most likely and will and up in Heaven Realm after this training is done

Umut Numanoglu

I think the moment he holds his grand grandson in his hands he will forget everything

Umut Numanoglu

At least pancakes will win Lu RI on their side. Maybe a romance between him and Xulian as they have similar interests

Chris Warner

I really cant wait for gramps to meet up. I have a feeling that he is going to be in for a surprise. thank you wordsmith.

SilasDrekken

Babe, the fox brother, and blade of grass are the only swordsmen on the farm. Although, Big D’s powers do take the form of blades of moonlight. Maybe in human form he would be a swordsman.

RedFaux

I do worry. Will gramps be able to accept Jin's philosophy? I'm not thinking it will be easy, if he ever does

ChanceOfFoxin

I love it!

Bille

The plum blossom org should be able to help fill in the results of what happened after Lu Ri left so that should be cool to hear. If plums have done well, the amount of gold grade rice. Oh maybe pancakes at verdant hill? Hoping to see his reaction, of all things, to the statues of Jin left behind by Tigu. Gramps seeing the ice statues and also the alcohol from the still and vajras mead as well. And of course gramps training everyone.

BlueMage_VT

I wondered about maybe Tigu joining the Cloudy Sword, but now I want to see Shen Yu training Bi De directly!

BlueMage_VT

I've wondered about his realm since he was traveling. I figured upper spiritual to somewhere in earth, but I also don't know where a "senior disciple" ranks in the hierarchy. Above, below or equal to a core disciple? How close to an elder? Can higher level disciples USE the formation in a basic and crude form, while only a master can truly use it? I wanna know!!

KnightRider007

It’s good seeing Lu Ri get what he deserves, and be amply rewarded -and *respected*- for his efforts And Jin will be delighted to receive the secret house sauce.

Demian Buckle

Thank you for the Chapter.

Anzer'ke

You are oh so skilled and drawing out the tension.

Anzer'ke

If Shen Yu learns that the Shrouded Mountain laid a hand on his great granddaughter...

rhekke

To most cultivators, that is true. To someone like Jin, who sees his immortality in what he leaves behind, it is every cultivator who acended and was subsequently forgotten who are on a dead end path.

Michael Foat

hahahaha, I thought it was the gramps that's supposed to send the mc on a journey, not the mc sending gramps on a journey to meet him.

Archyonx

Guys, i think a lot of people forgot that the title of this story is "beware the chicken"... So obviously when he ll meet the family, he ll have to take Bi De as official disciple, so that the legend of the chicken goes onward.

Bryan Ortiz Ramos

Seems as though gramps will be furious when he meets back up with Jin and finds that he isnt trying to conqier the world. I wonder how that will go.

paul Emmer

This path is interesting I think we will all be surprised how CF transition and twisted the run of the mill ideals of how things should go his thinking is always outside the box and not so predictable I wait with "ANTICIPATION ^

SamHawke

Shennog's Path is technically a dead end, no immortality or ascension, which is the goal of normal Cultivators

Lazy Lemon

On one hand, tis an amazing chapter and I love the pace, on the other hand, maaaaan I can't wait they meet, why make us suffer so

Joseph Dizdar

He was big on Jin being able to forge his own path when he was first introduced, so I feel he should be fine with it as long as it is a path forward.

CrazyExplorer

Did we just get confirmation that Lu Ri is in the Sky realm? In "v2c65.2: The Tournament part 2", Tao the Traveller reveals that you need to be at least in the Sky realm to be able to use the Raging Cloudy Sword Formation. And here it is revealed that Lu Ri can use it, albeit not “swiftly” without previous preparation.

Baines

immediately felt the Jiraiya connection the moment I read your comment

Baines

not enough boats for that

BargleNawdleZouss

Called it regarding the spirit animals and the maple syrup! Now, what happens when they start to get details of the "drunken brawl" at the Dueling Peaks? Also, I'm wondering if they'll run into some of the other cultivator sects while on the way to PMLC.

BargleNawdleZouss

Lu Ri, we're going to need details. COPIOUS details...

RJKY

He's a good egg.

Nemo

Seeing people again, who were helped by Jin/ Lu Ri is the most adorable thing. Also, shame on Shen Yu for using up the rest of the syrup! And after Lu Ri went and got him wine, too o.o

SuperiorFreak

Damn, for a moment there I had hoped that Lu Ri was the Podrick of this story. If you get the reference, good for you.

Thomasaurus Rex

Lu Ri is one of the best characters.

Empty Shelf

Really hoping that this visit doesn't end in heartbreak. Gramps has really grown on me, but he's still a Capital-C Cultivator, and I doubt he's going to accept Jin's new occupation gracefully. It's just a question of how hard he clings to who he wants Jin to be, and who Jin actually is.

Stav Tri

I slightly fear the moment shen yu finally reunites/meets Rou Jin and tianlian... I really really hope that shen yu does not look at the spirit beasts as food nor tianlian as a parasite. I had forgotten that the way of the normal cultivator is one that is filled with pride in ones cultivation and despise on those that would hinder it. I hope that shen yu doesn't see Rou jin's family as a hindrance, or there will be hell to pay.

Briar

I can’t wait for them to meet.

BlueMage_VT

Yay! I always enjoy Lu Ri, and I love this dynamic! Glad he is getting his reward after all, and I do worry a bit about how Gramps will react when he does find Jin and how attached his grandson is to his new life. On the other hand, the "thousand year old wine worth ten frontier towns" that was made by "a rare cultivator dedicated to creating" gives me hope that the quality amd goods of Fa Ram will prevent TOO much friction, but we shall see! Thank you for the excellent chapter!
