Sometimes you just need a friend to be there for you. :-)

Mikkel Raffnsøe Koefoed

Not today?

WolfKnight22

Can't wait to see what happens next

Chad Hagner

Amazing chapter, Emotional ending that slams you in the feels.

BigBro Bluesman

She probably wanted to die?

Marcin

Dude i know plenty of people that dont bother to remember people, mostly rich and/or powerful.

NeWorlDark

Forgiveness also means not holding anymore negative feelings for that person. Which when it's for a mother who emotionally abandoned you is kind of a tall order

Quentin Long

Z H sez: "Your disagreement on what forgiveness means is nothing more than self-serving pedantry and sophistry." Not exactly. I read "forgiveness" more as "I'm not going to grant you rent-free living space in my head any longer."

Carl Mason

It's not, but whatever. It is an internal/external thing. You forgive someone so YOU can let go of your hate, you absolve someone so THEY can let go of their shame.

totalynotanonymous .

Gotta say I think Xianghua's shitty mom must also have a touch of whatever she's got, since I'd think she'd know damn well otherwise not to poke that bear. Either that or she's just dumb.

totalynotanonymous .

I'd say at most it'd be things Xianghua considers inconvenient for herself, and that it wouldn't really remove them, so much as they would naturally flow with how she copes with them. Like gaining bullet time/photo graphic memory to cope with faceblindness. It'd be lame if you just shave off the rough edges, so I think making them instead extend and sharpen to turn into useful points would be cooler. It'd probably also be a pain in the ass and tiring to use all the time, so she probably wouldn't bother with randos.

Marcin

Jade skin devoid of all blemishes... bones turning into steel or some shit. All passive effects of cultivation...

BigBro Bluesman

Dude...I'm tearing up at this?! How on gods green earth make someone feel this way?! Oh god this is just to good..

BigBro Bluesman

Jesus I honestly didnt even realise this my god shes now my favorite character

Carl Mason

That is actually a good observation, in most stories (including this one) it doesn't "fix problems," what qi is generally described as doing is "refining" the characters body, removing unwanted traits. If you accept yourself and all your "flaws" it won't work them out.

Z H

Perhaps the real issue is how you are defining "problems"

Z H

That'll need to wait until Xianghua has a much better grasp on controlling the sect, otherwise the other Elders would just end up fighting over who could eat the gem to steal the dragon's remaining power.

Z H

Your disagreement on what forgiveness means is nothing more than self-serving pedantry and sophistry.

Marcin

Id sat her problems come from her Dragon blood, Ki in cultivatorsa fixes all body problems...

Bille

In addition, if you reread parts of her, you'll see that she studies "faces" to understand. The part where her / Gou are repairing walls after the duel peaks battle and when she meats Ten / Hu in the village, you'll see nice clues to that. Also - in discord CF confirmed as well.

rhekke

It's not stated outright, but when we get her point of view there are elements which align with how neurodivergent people describe their experiences and thought processes. P.S. I think it's great how Xianghua is handled, with her identity structured in such a way her neurodivergence is included in it, but does not define it.

Anonykor

I had no idea Xianghua was neurodivergent. I just thought she was quirky and over the top like an anime character. Was this ever explicitly stated anywhere? I'll have to reread her entrance and the story from there on.

Carl Mason

Forgiveness isn't earned. Absolution is earned. Forgiveness is what a victim does to shed the emotional damage and pain that person caused so they can move forward. It would have been nice for the mom to burst into tears and apologize and say she never wanted to do it, never meant it, etc, but it would be even better considering the way this chapter went for Xianghua to just let it go and move on for herself. "You are no longer our mother, you shameless hag. Have a nice day, Elder." Just mete out judgement and then forgive her as a person and move on with no personal relationship between them.

William Armstrong

This is really really well written. Again as a neurodivergent, I appreciated every bit of this

Enochi

A fantastic chapter. I really loved it.

Munirah Hutchinson

As a femme with autism, I was very fortunate for the parent I had. I feel for her so much. The way parents treat their disabled children can be worse than the outside world will treat them. I'm glad she found parents that love her and her brother now.

Anzer'ke

I'm just looking forward to when the Sect learns enough of the truth to appreciate that their Great Ancestor just spent four thousand years holding back their doom. Forgotten and buried beneath the muck, he kept right on going. I wonder if they could dig down there and construct a shrine around his remains. Now that would be a truly sacred place.

Dragebar

in the end it was heroism, before that... more like hedonism :D

Demian Buckle

Thank you for the Chapter.

Just A Dude

Forgiveness is earned, not automatic. A person who is wronged has no obligation to forgive, nor to forget, neither to accept an apology (let alone the self-justifications and bullshit we see here), unless they're damn well good and ready. I'd have been spitting blood if Xianghua has let her off the hook that easily after everything that happened.

Sebastian Rubin

She faced the demons of her past, not on the lake, but in the sect. And she overcame them, not with ease, but with her head unbowed and her heart untainted. Well done, Damp Pond; well done.

swishmcfish

It's still a fresh wound. I expect it to take many years for things to repair, also, her mother hasn't even apologized for any of what she's done. All she gave were explanations and justifications and still thinks she picked the correct path.

Featherweight

It was mentioned briefly before at the end of the breaking chapters- “The King of the lake roared, as roots and leaves consumed his flesh. The great lord dove to the bottom of the lake, turning himself purely into water. To stoke the misty lake, and do battle against the reeds.”

JohnJohn2195

Their task was to start the fishes hottub and then onto the next step lol.

Bonifacio Mario Peña Jr.

Was hoping the family would have a happy ending. Or else something along the lines of "I know you were wrong. And I know why you acted that way. I forgive you. We will be family but can never again will I call you mother or father. You lost your son and daughter when you left them to the mercy of the sect."

Chichi son

Their most potent and holy sight… site?

Namorat

These chapters are always so soothing to my soul.

Hieu Le

I am much more interested in the Lord of the Lake and his self-sacrifice than I am of the family drama here. I hope we get a flash back of his heroism

Featherweight

The lord’s sacred party tub.

Nicholas Grey

Beautiful mix of humour and character. Lovely subversion of the “knowledge of ancient times and tech” 🤣

Kasinki

The Lord of the Lake... man, what a guy. Thanks for the chapter!

Charlie H

Thank You!
