Wingless

Real Starship Troopers vibe from that propaganda video lol

Bonifacio Mario Peña Jr.

What if it was the Demons that ruined the relationship between the foxes and the founders? I understand human stupidity but they did get along pretty well before things went to shit

Ch W

Thanks for sharing 😊

swishmcfish

We got the info in a WOG on SB. The Zang Younger brother got greedy and lied to his older brother.

Echo Sparksong

sounds plausible

Demian Buckle

I see your point, my view was possibly over-simplistic. I do feel we can agree that history rarely reflects the actual events it chronicles but what the person who wrote it wanted it to convey.

William Armstrong

another counterexample from ancient times is the jews. They lot armed conflicts to stronger nations over and over and over again. But their story became one of the dominant ones read in all western history. Sometimes history is written by those who are determined to write things down and spread them, not by those who have the biggest army.

Ch W

I guess demons instigated it. Both sides didn't like each other so they rarely communicate. Demons ruined Fox leader's day by entering and ruining Fox territory, maybe even a Cuckoo wore either Zang brothers' features to throw insults. Zang family got poisoned intelligence from saved "innocent" survivors of fox abusers. Fox and Zang leaders meet to get justice/accuse each other, then boom, demons help both sides kill the other.

Szymon Szczełkun

I think that he meant the history in cultivation novels since it's simplicistic nature of this genre and long lifespan of peoiple in power over masses makes it perfect example for that kind of self justification after fact . And even in real world while what you said was true it happaned in 1945 so although progress of globalization and rapid information exchanges was incomparable to what it's now it was still on pretty high lv compared to usual settings of traditional cultivation novels . I think that you should rather think about it in terms of early middle ages like for example one noble family takes over others noble teritory and claims that other party started it even if it's not well made justification to other people in power in this kingdom and perhaps commoners living there will know that smth is wrong what about commoners living on the other side of the kingdom ? All they will hear will be the final result and justification of winning side from some kind of passing merchants and will naturally take it as truth and what's more that's how it will be recorded in official historical records of said kingdom regardless of the truth behind the accident

John Pratt

This isn't really true. History is stranger then that. There are some obvious counter-examples in U.S. History. The historical narrative around the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings in the U.S. is self-flagellating and makes only a cursory effort to justify it. Meanwhile there's significant revisionism around the Civil War to make the losers of that conflict look more justified then they were. History isn't written by the winners to justify what they did. It's written by the survivors to justify what they're going to do next.

And Summer’s Sky could be treated as a Reliable Source

Aggammenonn

Idk, seems like the Younger got greedy.

Ruriva

I hope it’s something in the gray. It would be really boring if it the foxes were completely innocent.

Justus Saucedo

yeah but they're a fox, you can never trust a fox spirit, they're always cunning, planning, scheming, plotting.

Barry Morgan

I was wondering if it might be Fenxian, who might recognize him or his technique from fighting him during the Dueling Peaks debacle.

Gear-2557

It's interesting to see the difference of SMS and CSS. SMS: We're too good to do menial tasks. CSS: Just because you're strong doesn't mean you don't have to clean up after yourself.

Spade ♠️ Dragon

Sooo... which side is now watching Yun Ren? SM secret police? Fox undercover? Fox traitor?

Valderan

It is to be noted that the fox's version of events is functionally from their ruling class. I'm more inclined to believe in Nezan's version of events since Nezan remembers things going down personally rather than through historic records and they have less bias towards inflating their historic accounts since they don't gain large benefit from altering things wholesale.

Old Dog

As always, thank you for the chapter. Glad to see Yun Ren is a model from "The man who was to lazy to fail" as told by Lazarus Long. Pre-ordered the next book on Audible today. Looks like my re-listening to books 1 and 2 is a mite premature.

Andrew Denton

"Strength above all" means strength above truth, strength above accuracy, strength above honour, etcetera, etcetera.

Avdrdr

I’d tend to believe the foxes because there’s multiple human branch families left hidden around all over

Demian Buckle

History has very little to do with the truth, it is written by the Winners to raise up themselves and justify their actions while putting down the loser and making all the sins theirs so distrust and hate will be in the minds of the people so the loser can't rise again. Another way is that the "Truth is Told by the Strong." Strength determines all, it is the same in this story as it is in our world.

Demian Buckle

Thank you for the Chapter.

Rene Christensen

I'm guessing both younger and elder brother found the antics of the foxes hilarious, but that they also both slept with her. In the end she chose the older brother or refused to settle with either and the younger killed them both in a fit of rage, followed by a genocide of the foxes.

Maltec

also that attitude compared to how most cultivators act?, its pretty tame

Nick Marini

Finally caught up!

Hamasake Gagf

i see it as what is a harmless prank for some is torture for others

DeerHeart

Yes, now, after they had been exterminsting his kind for who knows how long, but when they first met were the foxes bad?

Cj

The truth is probably a bit of both. We’ve seen the inside of his head it’s not a nice place. He was legit tempted to yeet people whom have done nothing but right by him and his own blood at SM. He may not be as bad as they portray, but he probably has a lot of blood on his paws

BelligerentGnu

I'm going with 'demon-forged bs'

Len

It took me a sec to realize she is doing anime training....

Victor Segura

Didnt you already said that what nezan said was mostly the truth and the second brother was full of shit? In spacebattle

Stylidium

Its the twillight cuckoos triumph at work. Taking the "lost" brother and playing both sides after their defeat. Every version of the story is true from their perspective because they thought the demoms gone.

Anzer'ke

Ignoring the reveal in the SB thread, I'd still lean towards the foxes just because of Wen. At the very least she suggests that the SMS ended up going way too far. But the confirmed-treacherous younger brother being the convenient only survivor is just waaay too suspicious. Somebody made with the backstabbing methinks. Which is a nice way to poke a hole in their hole 'Strength above All' thing. It was bullshit right from the start. I only hope Shen Yu has some ancient crystal of a fox hero aiding the emperor or something to shatter their -heh- illusions.

yannick schwende

So they fought against demons who are know for driving wedges in between people and they don't think to even consider that maybe someone might be manipulating them? I mean... Aren't they currently being super aware of the demon threat? Seems to me like a real case of stupidity. But maybe I am wrong and they were just stereotypical cultivators lost to greed and arrogance.

Leander

Jealous younger brother murdered the fox and his brother in a fit of jealousy.
