Devlog - 9/22/24

Hey all,
Those among you who have been checking the progress status of the next update might have noticed it not moving much in the past few days. There's a reason for that. My real life job, which I've been at for something like the past 9ish years, has been slowly becoming worse and worse. The pandemic a few years ago was the start, and the company has only gotten worse since then.
This all came to a head about 5ish months ago when the company decided to completely remove any work from home benefits, as well as assign me some truly difficult clients with no support or assistance (I won't say exactly what I was doing as to not dox myself, but broadly speaking, think of it as something adjacent to HR that worked with other companies). The long commute, on top of maddeningly frustrating work, was destroying my mental and physical health, so about a week ago I told them to find a replacement, finished up most of my responsibilities, and peaced out.
So what happens now? Well, for starters, I'm going to work part-time for one of my roommates, who owns a business, so there won't be any worries of me starving or becoming homeless. That will leave me with a significantly higher amount of free time, which I plan to throw into development of the game. I had originally planned for the next update to be out by the end of this month, but thanks to the chaos of the last two or three weeks, I don't think that will be possible. Regardless, I intend to try to get the update as soon as possible.
To those who have continued to back me during this time, I want to say a huge thank you for your support. For those waiting anxiously for the next update, I ask you have a little more patience. And for those who backed me in the past but have understandably stopped due to the lack of updates, I hope you decide to check out the next update when it comes.

Yea, customer service/retail work can be a real spirit breaker. Looking forward to some menial, non-customer facing tasks in my part time job, and then doing more art, maybe some commissions down the road as well.

I think it should be a requirement that everyone should do customer service work for a bit, so they know what it's like. If you need to take some time to decompress, it's fully understandable. Good luck with your new job, and, thanks for your hard work!

I understand how difficult it can be working with people. I've been in retail for the past five years and sometimes I don't know how I got through the day. Sometimes you just gotta put on that fake smile, be friendly and apologize for whatever the customer has a problem with even though they're more than likely the problem. Hope you enjoy your new job more.
