It's not just the trauma of the Campbell situation. It's also the trauma of already having her son ripped from her arms and taken away from her. She is paralyzed with fear of losing him again that she is now making mistakes and trying to control him and that's pushing him away from her right now. I 100% understands Polly's fear and trauma but I also agree that she shouldn't have tried so hard to find him and then allowed him to be in this business when she knew that eventually he was gonna get pulled into some dark parts of the business as they all have.

Polly was speaking metaphorically in that scene with the portrait… the scene was a purge from her trauma with Campbell.. that’s also why they included the flashback of the SA… She wasn’t delusional lol she was metaphorically saying I’m not that woman anymore. Not that she’s out of the lifestyle..but that she has released a traumatic event she suffered..
