I think Barbarossa sacrificed himself because Salazar was climbing up and gaining on them. If Salazar caught up to any of them he could have very easily pulled them off the chain. I think Barbarossa mostly wanted to save his daughter

The transatlantic slave trade began in the 1500s. The golden age of piracy, which is when this take place, is around the late 1600s to early 1700s. Far before America abolished slavery. But many slaves ran away and escaped to the seas. This is because there were tons of slaves on plantations in the Caribbean islands, most growing sugar. So yes, realistically their should be tons of black pirates, but there were just as many if not more non black pirates. Many pirates came from England, spain, ireland, netherlands, and from the americas. FYI when somebody says 18th century, they mean 1700s.

There will never be a day where I like Carina's character in this film because how the HELL did it take you to FINALLY realize this man was your dad after he gave you the most detail about that damn book that you never got from anyone?!?!? I felt like it could've been better because they dragged the HELL out of every part of the end where they were in the divide. The whole time I kept yelling "GET TO THE POINT!" Plus, there was NO REASON for Barbossa to die off like that. Regardless, I'm happy y'all saw the series through! Next: Jurassic Park (in prep for the new movie coming out :D)

Apologies that part im not entirely sure on, his back story is so vague since its never mentioned outright so I could be mistaken on details. So Jacks ship once called "the wench", was sunk thanks to Lord Becket after he set the slaves free, Davey Jones had a twisted sense of irony so he promised to raise Jacks ship from the depths which he then renamed the Black Pearl. **Your not gonna believe this, but the entire plot of Jack Sparrows story is centered around him being charged to ship black slaves to the English. He had a deal with "Lord Becket" (from the 3rd movie) where he wouldn't be hanged as long as he shipped 100 slaves across the sea, however before reaching his destination he had remorse for his actions and changed course and let them all free. Thus simultaneously pissing off Lord Becket and Davey Jones because those 100 souls were lives meant to be lost at sea. That is why Jacks soul was worth "100 souls". The island village where Tia Dalma (Calypso) was living is also those former black captives home. That's why in the second film they mourn his death with candles. Its actually crazy how much shit they completely cut from the original trilogy so when your watching you have no context what so ever why and how Lord Becket and Davey Jones know Jack Sparrow. So yeah Lord Becket was even more of a piece of shit than we saw lol, but I guess Disney was too scared to have a slave trader as there villain.
