Plot armor is very real in yugioh for sure, but liberties were always taken with the effects of the cards. From card of sanctity to spell textbook to even spellbinding circle, effects have been known to be tweaked for the show. The effect of flute of summoning dragon does not allow the opponent to summon a dragon in the actual TCG, but it might in the show, even though it’s never happened before. Maybe Yugi/the pharaoh didn’t have a dragon in his hand in previous duels when Kaiba has used the flute. I know it’s a reach, but idk if it’s “cheating” lol

So, Yugi cheated here unfortunately. Flute of Summoning Dragons does NOT work on both players hands, only the hand of the player that activated the card but the writers and animators had to change the card for the anime for this part specifically because Yugi would've lost right there once all 3 Blue-Eyes attacked. It's important to remember that some card effects are changed for the anime specifically. Card of Sanctity for example doesn't make both players draw until they have 6 cards, in the actual card game you banish your entire hand and only draw until you have 2 cards in your hand and both players have to have at least 1 card already in their hand or you can't use the card.

The was one big question I always had. What if Yugi played de-fusion first? Would Kaiba’s absorb spell magic card would’ve protected his Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon?
