I guess my real issue is what to expect of the MCs reaction when Vivian’s actions eventually come to light. To me, and I’d think to the characters, repaying their loyalty and generosity with forced compulsion that casually unearthed Ali’s deepest and most dangerous secrets is such a profound violation that should break all trust between them. If anything Malikas distrust of Vivian/Mieriel is understated, and the revelation should put Vivian in the category of, at best, the lesser evil choice between her and the town guard… this place is so rotten to the core they don’t really have much choice but to stay with the Guild, but any sympathy or loyalty they feel would be shattered.

I think my problem with this subplot is that it’s hard to relate with Vivian’s visceral hatred of “dungeons.” Were just told dungeons are evil blah blah blah and Ali’s friends clearly believe this and I guess we should expect Ali to be horrified by the revelation when someone finally gets around to being honest with her, but it seems like an incongruous prejudice given Ali and her class haven’t actually put anyone in danger. And her friends clearly have no great anxiety about exploiting her dungeon-ness, Mato enjoying dungeon-grown ingredients Calen helping grow her domain etc. They clearly don’t see her as a ticking time bomb, their anxiety is around telling her. It’s not like with Matos berserker skill or even Mieriels passive mind magic where we can see the obvious clear and present danger. We’re just told “Ali being a dungeon=bad” and expected to sort empathize with Vivian’s any-means-are-justified violations (and violations of her own principles).

I feel the same way especially since Kieran Mori has been to the dungeon. I always wondered why he or Tala haven’t gone back there to wipe everyone out for the experience a personal dungeon could provide for training or for the super powerful shrine. I really thought they wouldn’t be safe there after that but it was never brought up

Mmm yeah I'm expecting them to figure it out first and very quickly since Calen took notes. I think it's silly that Vivian wouldn't account for such. Editing a mind causes lapses. It's only so long before lapses go noticed. And this is a very tight knit group. All it takes to make narratives like that fall apart is somebody talking about something with somebody else that's connected. Anyway, yeah, seems this is going to be a mess, unfortunately, and messes due to unnecessary understandings suck... I wonder how old Vivian is. I hope she is very young, that would make the naiveness easier. I think without question Vivian and Mieriel should be forgiven by Ali and her group if they asked and explained themselves but... these are kids. I don't think I should expect it, even though obviously, things will work out - they're kinda stuck, after all. Like kids that can't move out lol. I hope there's no rift between her friends because that would be dumb but yeah, kids...

Thank you :)

Thanks for sharing - I really enjoy reading comments like yours. Learning how it lands and what people think chapter by chapter is such an incredible opportunity for an author. And I think I would feel the same way you described if I found myself in that situation.

wonder if Ali would accept Vivian Ross’s apology. Assuming Ross would even be able to apologize before Ali discovered it herself. But I don’t think Vivian Ross is understanding the importance of this apology. Ross is kind of terrified of Ali to the point that she’d rather Ali just drop dead, I’m surprised Ross is not bit afraid that if she doesn’t apologize, Ali will want some kind of revenge. granted I don’t think that’s even close to a possibility of happening but Ross still thinks Ali is a danger so from Ross’s perspective, that reality don’t seem that unlikely. And if Ali doesn’t take the apology well or doesn’t get one. there is a real possibility of all Ross’s top guild members heating her guts. Or they just leave the guild entirely but that’s probably unlikely. Not to mention Ross will probably not have access to the better shrine for future adventures. Personally, I think it’s pretty likely Ali would forgive Ross if she apologized. if I was in Ali situation I’d probably never be able to forgive Ross And would feel disgusted being in her presence. but I can understand the logic in her actions so I believe Ali would forgive Ross. Now will Ali forgive her friends? I personally feel that her friends keeping this secret from her is actually something she find more difficulty understanding and wouldn’t forgive her friends. But obviously the story has to continue so it’ll probably be more like a permanent scar on their friendship kind of thing. Unless they tell her before she figures it out herself. To be honest I’m surprised Malika hasn’t told Ali about it yet. Especially since they could probably infer that Ross might know about Ali being a dungeon. Also sorry for my long comment. I just like to get all my thoughts out. Also also I’m really enjoying your story so far. So thanks for making it.

Agreed, it's frustrating when something it feels like the reader is supposed to think should be a big deal is just consistently skipped over or given no weight. Vivian and Mieriel didn't care, the librarian didn't care beyond the coolness of the library, the smith didn't care beyond getting metal brought to him, didn't show interest in the forges, the people she helped get a class weren't very curious about the shrine, just accepting... the dungeon and raid below the city barely got a reaction... By this point I've just accepted it and no longer expect any reaction to Dal'mohra. I have to imagine Nevyn Eld was brought up before when Vivian was interrogating Ali too because it seemed like she told her whole sad story. Didn't care then, even if he strangely wasn't named, didn't react specifically to her saying she'd seem him before if she somehow missed it, etc. I was frankly surprised for Nevyn Eld to get a reaction at all this chapter. *shrug*

I think its a good way of adressing our comments about the immersion and continuity nice! Also great chappie today, thanks!

ya i agree im just sayn for her. i got the feeling she wouldnt really be as devastated as people think but maybe im wrong.

The sense I get is that most or all modern day dungeons are corrupted by the Shadow council.

I "LOVE" how just a single fact (Ali Owning a dungeon), change everything, she isn't Ali/Aliandra, she just "Dungeon"... Hell ask the other in her team, they were here when she changed class, they know her the longest and see everything she done to "better" the town...

ALEXEI

I kind of got the feeling that dungeons weren't really despised in Ali's day maybe that's all in my head. I like the read but there's one big issue for me that has been a constant for a while, no-one seems to care about the fact that Ali is from dalhmohra or that it exists right below them. There's a few people that definitely know and some that definitely have reason to guess and I find it very strange that what should be the find of the century and be crawling with questions and attention is just never addressed by anyone.

I like that characters aren't perfect and make mistakes and reflect on them.
