Rip Woodham

Absolutely, but the way he handled Lyeneru... saying no, you don't need to come with me and I have this mission for you. And he would be just popping in and killing the dungeon she insisted needed to not be killed if not for his precious book also having golden arcane magic... he didn't care for her opinion, her information, finding out more about why she might not want Ali killed first... would he even care to find out any more or change his opinion if he knew her apprentice was friends with the dungeon, nope. Nathaniel raised all kinds of flags this chapter. Like a Saruman in the making. And we need this guy to prevent Ali being killed by New Daria, because that's the word that's going to come back overruling Myrdin's Keep... so I was expecting for him to be curious, rational and caring of the actual issues rather than politics and ingrained beliefs.

Scott McCarthy

One thing I always remembered from a Dresden files book is they talk about how people get more and more stuck in their thought patterns as they grow older, and wizards live a lot longer in that world then others. Nathaniel is very old. (there is came up because 1 character who was over 2 centuries old had been swapped into a 20-something body, and they underestimated how much it would have affected her due to this)

Scott McCarthy

"not even the Trolls know who crafted those." When the prideful and arrogant race does not know how they were made, that tells you something. Though my guess is that they were not capable of it, and their superiority is not as absolute as they believe but more related to circumstances and local resources like how all most advantages one civilization has held over another have worked throughout history (a lot of those conquests start with extra resources to be able to afford the war and desire for more resources), so their pride caused them to not write down who did it as well as directs their culture to minimize exposure of their weaknesses...

Rip Woodham

Hopefully she'll have inserted some spell that just gives her the knowledge because I don't think he'd just leave it with her, he's shown himself to be a prick so far... :p

Rip Woodham

Yeah Saruman!

Rip Woodham

Nathaniel is disappointing but that's realistic I guess. One of the most powerful figures, that he personally trained and he doesn't even care for her opinion or how his actions affect her. Reports coming in that would be of great concern if he wasn't immediately dismissive of them. A being that would be of great use to him and he doesn't even entertain the possibility, if not for one niche part catching his interest.

Nicolas Symeou

Could archmages please stop touching palantirs for just five minutes?

Tanj

Nathanial's reactions to evil seem to lack .. commitment. What was he using the crystal for?

WolfKing69

;P

WolfKing69

OMG YAS!!!!

Lijwent

It would be quite fun if the new team of bad guys tries to attack Ali while the archmage is there...

Scott McCarthy

It is a D&D joke. Where Wizards only need Intelligence to function as a wizard.

TheIronDragon

I loved the cute library scenes! And I'm so excited for Ali to get her mom's book!

WolfKing69

Wisdom can't be his dump stat. He's magic and he needs the mana. I'm also certain the chapter said he knew about sapient dungeons, and it implied they were still killed because they fear that the Blind Lich would do

HornboozeWFG

Tftc, I know everyone dislikes most form of cliffhangers

Scott McCarthy

Also : “That’s… unusual,” Nathaniel said, rubbing his chin and leaning back in his chair. “I remember this Myrin’s Keep now… I got a report from the Guildmaster of the Adventurers Guild – some preposterous claim about the Blind Lich showing up.” He chuckled dismissively. Blindly dismissing a report about the blind Lich is an absolutely idiotic move. That is to dangerous a possibility to ignore outright, a known lacky attacking the town shortly afterwards is very strong evidence is it true. Sorry, Wisdom is this guy's dump stat.

Scott McCarthy

He still defaulted to "kill the dungeon" so not getting my hopes up. Their society has not come close to regaining what was lost to the blind Lich's war. So I doubt he ever encountered a dungeon that was not already persecuted and/or abused to the point of no return by the idiot locals.

WolfKing69

Oh yes, and he better show Ali and Lira some respect!!!

Raven

Knowledge dump for a young dungeon from her long dead mother? If any should be able to read and make sense of the book, it would be her. The Archmage has enough wisdom and tempering from a 1000 years of experience to not need a scolding by a pissed off ancient dryad about hospitality law in someone's home is he?

Ulsar

Azgaroth

Thank for the chapter. Yes that what i was thinking, he has a book from Ali's Mom.... Also what will be Ali reaction upon seeing it??? And can the mother have "inserted" a spell inside for when her daughter would study the book for the first time??? (Like a congratulation message about her progress on her Class, and to have gained access to this book...)

JHD

He is going to be surprised when the autors daugther is the dungeon.
