> Requirements met for shrine advancement. Already?! > Shrine of the Ancient Grove gains Sacrifice.
You may sacrifice any living entity in range of the shrine, draining them of life and mana, and returning it to yourself for a temporary enhancement to your power. Oh. Yuck. > There was no way she was turning her beautiful shrine into something like these bone or ice altars, torturing helpless trolls for power to raise the dead. You're darn right! > Grove Warden has reached level 84 (+6). Wow. Seems like Ali should reach (or at least get very close to) level 90 once they clear this dungeon. Getting to level 100 might be a bit of a challenge, though. They can likely a level or too from defeating the Corrupted Fire Drake, which they can probably do now. They might also be able to get a few levels from the Ruins of Lyton dungeon, but they'll probably out-level almost everything there by the time they clear this dungeon, so I doubt they'll get enough levels from that to reach 100, either. Maybe they could reach level 100 by fighting things on the other side of the rift, but that sounds like it would have the opposite problem. I suspect the name "Lair of the Demon God" for that dungeon is quite literal, and taking on a god-tier dungeon, even a small bit of it, before even reaching their first class evolutions sounds like a recipe for disaster. (Incidentally, if the Lair of the Demon God is truly a god-tier dungeon, that could easily explain why Calen's Explorer skill seemed a bit bugged on it.) On another note, I wonder if the Lair of the Demon God's titular "Demon God" is the same as the "demon king Destraggoth" that Azryet is currently stuck in a stalemate with. I doubt the party would be able to clear the Lair of the Demon God on their own, but *maybe*, just maybe, they might be able to tip the balance enough that Azryet can break the stalemate. And remember, being pivotal in a battle can still earn you quite a few levels even if the battle itself is way above your level. Just look at Calen and Lyeneru's battle with the Death Knight, and the growth Calen got from that. Finally, speaking of Azryet, I couldn't help but notice that the one we saw his perspective, he was shown gaining Authority. Same thing as the Authority mentioned in Elowynn's book, perhaps? (Yes, I realize I was really reaching to make this relevant, but I missed making this sort of observation while binging the public chapters, and I doubt I'll find somewhere it's more relevant before I finish the Patreon chapters.) > Pursing her lips for a moment in thought, she invested four points into vitality. I'm a bit surprised she didn't knee-jerk invest a ton in vitality due to that last fight. > Mana: Teleport beyond your range. Mana cost depends on distance. Recharge: 4 hours. Nice! A long-range teleport! It's good to finally have an example of someone outright refusing an advancement (rather than just picking between options), but I'd still like an example of someone refusing an advancement solely due to build problems rather than ethical concerns. You said early on that you had to be careful to which advancements you accepted to avoid ruining your build, but it's only ever been relevant when picking between/among multiple options so far.

Nice chapter. I wonder why all the trolls changed sides. Has that been explained and I missed it? That said, it felt a bit odd having last chapter before the more “serious” bit with the alter and survivors.

Ali had the ability to scribe a runic circle and teleport home (when not fighting) for a long time. This doesn’t greatly add to that for getting home. While it makes getting home instantly possible, it’s more valuable when traveling alone (since otherwise teleporting home from combat would abandon her friends). Where it makes a big difference is in facilitating solo travel — especially where a minion scouts a location to confirm she can arrive safely and this teleport is used for the outbound trip. The other use I’m visualizing is to make Ali into a quick reaction force for defending her domain. Teleports within the domain still have a 10 second recharge, but now have unlimited range, so she might join (or exchange minions among) multiple almost simultaneous battles if, say, her domain were besieged. I can easily imagine this providing a motivation to extend her domain above ground into new places.

Clarence being the goodness of boys. I still say she should be blessed to live an copy of herself within the shrine just to have it keep on expanding and to add the new imprints Vangaurd Ali gets with her adventuring.... Also depending on the time it takes to cast or if it's instant and the cool down she very well could have the ability to 1 shot the Blind Lich man...also what the hell is Alexander doing.... it's been awhile and I don't feel safe with him still being around

Thank you for the meal! It was delicious. Love the teleport upgrade.

Thanks for the chapter. I was wondering how the domain withdrawal was going to go.

This teleport is incredibly convenient and I think lifesaving. With Ali's shrine now the only one capable of unlocking classes above level 100, I expect a lot of people would want to kill her and take it. Domain withdrawal was the easiest way so far, just ambush her outside, drive her off and wait for her to die, while fighting inside her domain is much harder. Now this teleport solved the withdrawal problem and made it impossible to trap her anywhere (unless something would prevent teleportation there). Of course it still doesn't help when every organisation and nation on the continent will want to mess with her, but at least now there'll be a fight.

Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to give a quick progress report to the guild master while she is back.
