Ch1 Jotun Development
🕑 Added 2026-01-11 09:42:25 +0000 UTCWe are constantly adding content to the Chapter 1 for Jotun, moving some of the developed content to the next chapter for narrative coherence. One of the new content we added is a boxing quick time event (don't worry, tutorial included in-game). We hope to start Alpha testing soon, after we clean up the first part of the game. In the long run, we hope to remake Ergi entirely. We hear your feedback about the gameplay and artwork consistency and a lot of those issues cannot be resolved without an entire game overhaul. We have been looking at ways and talking to other artists and programmers to create demos of the remake and have them tested. Unfortunately, some of those fundamental issues remain unresolved, which is the consistency of 3D art style is very dependent on the artist. Some of you may not be fans of AI art work, and despite its issues, it makes small developers less dependent on the same few artists to work on the project. If Jotun works out well, we hope to remake Ergi as a live-action game as well. The story telling potential and immersion is huge and a lot less painful to make them.

I think it would be more appropriate to clean the last chapter of Ergi. There are still bugs and people can't play it without modifying the saves. Concerning the visual of Ch9 and Epilogue, one thing is the consistency of the main characters, which could be still somewhat problematic when using AI, but the other problem, i. e. producing pictures with undeformed figures is already easy if using the right tools. Please, deliver us a clean unbugged Ergi soon.

Is Jotun still gonna run in RenPy? I'm hoping it is still portable to Android/iOS cus the time-based point & click mechanics on Desktop is less smooth than a touch-based device if this is gonna be the main combat mechanic.

I think some people are opposed to AI in block (intellectual property issues, throwing artists out of a job...), but I think most users are open to it, provided the result is good and consistent -which means that you can't just create a bunch of images and weave them together, a lot of artistic work to retouch the AI output must be done (which probably would need the hand of an artist). I do think it's possible, it needs care though

To be honest, if done properly in order to achieve a consistent vision for your creative work, the implementation of AI appears to be inevitable these days. Recent Indie projects in Ergi's genre have shown, that within months a level of excellence can be achieved that might not be perfect in all details but has proven to be most effective for general progress. Will a potential Remake of Ergi still be driven by story immersion at its core? Are you aiming for something close to Dragon Age: Origins or Mass Effect?

I really hope the remake of Ergi as a live-action game will still not change the character appearance that much. One of the things that attractive about Ergi men is that they dont look like pretty boys 😅. Even for Borge and Britt. I can't imagine seing Anders or Jostein without their furryness 🤣.
