Ironically, watched this now on the bullet train from Tokyo to Kyoto seeing the sights. Came for hobbyist stuff (figures, cards, ...), food, adult content. I am the same, big weeb guy in grade school, I first watched samurai champloo when it aired on adult swim in middle/highschool (I'm same age as josh). Having watched Japanese style samurai stuff like rurouni kenshin, the aesthetics of champloo combining edo times with american/urban elements was different and interesting back then. That combined w a hip hop ost that way proceeds the idea of lofi shot the series up for me in cool factor. Having been to Japan a couple times, I feel this conformity or uniformity here. Everyone here dresses trendy, I rarely see any indication that someone loves anime. As I got older, I started to think the anime aesthetic was kinda tacky and nerdy, but I'm slowly leaning into it cause it's what sets us apart, and we like what we like.

I always felt like Samurai Champloo had better, and generally just more, two partners.

Ep. 5 was fun, interesting situation with the artist and the criminal organization, kept you guessing who was in on it. The detective was funny, too!~ The voice acting/direction was kinda weird tho, but I am kinda getting used to it. - Josh talking about cave-man 69in' was hilarious. - Ep. 6 "I no gimme~" Another funny episode, but I appreciated that the good Dutch guy actually gave Fu a lead on the main plot.
