That is currently a Patreon goal. Whenever I reach it I will start porting it back to older versions (probably will pay someone to do that because a day sadly only has 24 hours :P). To get more FPS try the Iris Shader mod (it includes a performance mod called Sodium). Only available for Fabric though.
