Ervin’s speech at the end of this episode is one of my favourite quotes of all times. When I was struggling with depression I used to listen to it over and over again because it helped me to stay focused on surviving my inner battle. I love this episode and I like Ervin for the decision that he made in the end. Thank you for your reaction. I was waiting for so long to see it.

Nope - I've never read anything by Lord Tennyson :) As a Dr of Literature I specialise in a specific topic, but also throughout my studies we read that many authors I definitely cannot remember everything haha. I also leant more into literature than poetry!

When I saw this episode for the 1st time what popped into my head was this was a scene straight out of the poem called "Charge of the Light Brigade." "Ours is not to reason why, Ours is but to do and die." As a Dr. of Literature I wonder if you're familiar with that poem by Lord Tennyson about a suicide charge?

This episode displays something I've been wanting to comment for a while: that Armin's not a leader, because he lacks the decisiveness to put others in danger. He's an advisor; Jean's the leader (who needs the advice.)

I realized early that you have a much better time with aot if you root for the story to be good rather than for your favorite cahracters to survive but... some of them still hit me anyways

Despite how amazing the previous episodes and seasons were, this episode feels, to me, like the "point of no return". The amount of dead, how much higher the stakes feel, makes me feel that in my bones. I am also 100% sure this is where I would die if I was a character in this world, don't know if anyone else feels this. The "emergency rookies" and Erwin are showered by rocks but it is our hearts that get thorn to pieces! Remember, we don't always laugh at the same things but, when we mourn, we all mourn! A hug to you Sophie, but to all the other people that are living this again. It never truly gets easier <3 PS: Nice comment about Erwin's eyebrows. He has the best eyebrows in the business! (Bet Naruto fans will not like this, but it is true xD)

Unpopular opinion, Erwin scene at the end....I think this man's dub is the only I've seen that hits harder than the original 😭. Please Sophie you should consider to rewatch this particular episode in dub, just for the final speech 👌. ''Because my soldiers do not buckle or yield when faced the cruelty of this world!'' . I would die for my commander if he gave this speech, especially if that music is playing in the background too. 😤

Highly recommend you also watch the speech in dub. The sub version is amazing no question, but by god does the speech hit different when you hear it in your own language and erwin's english va is incredible.

with how many time i've rewatched this show i've become pretty good at holding my mask and not cry at many of this shows saddest moments, but erwins speech at the end of this episode has not once failed at making me sob my face off. absolutely heart wrenching

It is going to be difficult staying patient waiting for the rest of this season. This episode kicks off such back to back bangers of episodes. One of the lines that I feel like needs so much more attention in this episode than it gets generally is Levi saying "I'm making the choice". It is his final gift to Erwin. Levi's life is defined by moments where he has had to make a choice that turned out terribly, that cost him precious friends like Farlan Church and Isobel Magnolia. Here he makes the decision to remove the burden from Erwin's shoulders and make it his own. All the lives of the recruits, Erwin's life, the blood is on Levi's hands, and because of his history we know that was the choice he felt he would regret the least. Thanks for another wonderful reaction <3

I feel a little crazy with this take, but I've always found little Floch's panic-speech in this episode to be even more relevant and important to the themes of the show than the speech Erwin gives later. It's ALMOST a shame how really great moments get overshadowed by others, but I can't get too mad because it just means the show is even more excellent!

My Albert Camus / Absurdism loving self always gets giddy listening to Erwin’s final speech! So many similarities. Edit: Also, the amount of hardstyle songs that use both the dub and sub versions of the speech is insane. I think I have 20+ songs on my Spotify alone that are just Erwin’s speech with different hardstyle beats behind it. Amazing for the gym PR’s.

The speech of strong enough to make everyone choose to follow him, and his charge is one of the moments I keep watching and cry every time, because it's such a strong scene, the voice acting, the music, the heroic sacrifice... he knows he has to go forward to make his troops follow him

That scene with Conny laughing at the very beginning is actually a pun that unfortunately couldn't be translated. He talks about Eren's house being destroyed, the sentence ends with "Eren no Ye ga" ("ye" = house"), but "Ye ga" sounds exactly like how they pronounce "Yeager" (Eren Yeager) lol
