Should I ditch Twitter (Poll)
🕑 Added 2024-11-06 17:08:04 +0000 UTCHey everyone - the actually monthly poll has less than a day left, but while that's going on I figured i'd ask a question that's been on my mind for a bit.
I'm less and less enjoying my time on Twitter, and I kinda want to close my account there. This will leave me with a presence on DeviantArt, Furaffinity and Tumblr. I have a BlueSky account but I don't use it, and i've got a bad feeling that one day it's gonna need to be monetised and it'll become an AI or advert hellhole - but if you think it's worth engaging with there's an option for that.
I will keep my twitter open if enough patrons want me to be there, and likewise please comment below if there's an art site you think I should be posting to :)

I'm still keeping my twitter around for the moment just to make sure I'm not missing anyone's bsky links but I definitely feel like Twitter is just plain bad now-- using your uploads to scrape for their AI is just the most scummy thing ever. I don't support Twitter's awful decisions.

Then I definitely think you should step back. Some people are disciplined enough to "manipulate" their own algorithm, but for most people it's just whatever keeps them scrolling the longest, which is usually whatever makes them the most upset. That shit is bad for you.

My issue is that I'm always reflexively checking my notifications on all the art sites, so I open up twitter often, and then I can't help but doomscroll on the For You Page

Oh, and they have announced a plan to monetize it, but in a more Discord Nitro style way where some plus plan would get you higher quality video uploads and some other new stuff being worked on, but no algorithm boost, no paywalling of the existing features, and no ads in the current announcement.

While it’s possible Bluesky could take a turn in the future, for now it’s a much more enjoyable version of the Twitter format. Lower absolute numbers, but higher quality of engagement. If that stops being the case I suppose we’ll all move on to some new thing, but for now I'm enjoying Bluesky for what it currently is.

Twitter is, without a doubt, gonna get worse over time, no thanks to the election; I'd say leave, but just protect your account or something, cuz it would suck to see your entire account be deleted

I've always despised twitter, and exclusively access it for art through alternate frontends like nitter. It won't be any great loss to me if you close it, but I suppose you should consider it's utility as just another gallery (as shitty as twitter is for that) and the possibility of just using your account for art posts and previews rather than for social networking.

Absolutely get a bluesky. We're all having so much fun over here and it's so much better than Twitter. I left Twitter last night and it really helps.
