I don't check Patreon regularly, so I only saw this the day you restarted the comic. The natural, normal emotional response to Loss is Grief. But Grief is an odd thing. Unlike other emotions, which respond immediately, Grief runs on its own schedule. Grief may not appear when the Loss happens. It may not appear for months or years. It may show up and piggyback on top of a much smaller Loss, leaving you wondering why you're so upset over something so trivial. Well you're not, you're late-Grieving a far bigger, earlier Loss. And the inverse is also true: if Grief wants to show up _now_, right when the Loss happens, it's NOT going away. It will NOT be denied. You _will_ have to go through the Grief right then, right there. The Upshot is: anybody who tries to tell you when and how to Grieve is an a-hole who probably thinks they can tell the tide to stop coming in. If the Grief wants your attention and stops you from working, you GO and GRIEVE! Anyone who can't understand that, well, as my late Uncle Joe would say, "F%ck 'Em!"

Hey! Please take your time to rest and recover.

It is OK to sometimes be not okay when you need to be. You do not need to be OK for us. I don't know enough of your situation to know if I really understand what you're going through. We don't need to understand what you're going through. All we need to understand is that you're going through some kind of loss process. Those are all rough and they take time to deal with. Also, as Rusty of Kelly Turnbull's Pipeburn comic said on Chapter 01 Bonus 2, you can't unbreak something. Even after you've "dealt" with it, it'll still be a loss. But it will be more manageable than it is now. Life will be different, but it goes on. But however it goes, we will be here for you. At least, until Patreon is lost, then we'll be somewhere else for you.

Also (didn’t mean to post twice) I appreciate the privacy. It isn’t our business but from what you’ve chosen to share… it seems clear to me to be a big emotional weight for yoj. There isn’t anything that can be done about that, I know, but know that you have people who want and hope for the best for you. I don’t know how much of a comfort that is, but I hope it is one, and that you’re able to hold onto that.

Jason Li

I’m glad the comic is a comfort but take as much time as you need to make sure it continues to feel like one. Please look after yourself.

John Torode

take whatever time you need to take care of yourself 😊

digimaniac33

take care of yourself, take care of others if that's what you want to do, and don't push yourself for our sakes

JasonAW3

Dan, I understand what you're going through. I've lost many friends and family to various things, even found out this week one of my best friends has an early form of prostate cancer. Me? Three years ago my thyroid was removed due to papillary Thyroid cancer, and now? They want another biopsy. But dude, life does go on and it does get better. The pain never really goes away, but it does get easier to deal with. So, for yourself, and everyone around you, just keep on keeping on...

This. Which now makes it +2 to all below. :)

I'm so sorry for your loss. Take as much time as you need to take care of yourself and those close to you. We'll be here when you get back.

BeastialMoon

Take as long as you need to do whatever you need. Even if that turns out longer than you expect now, know that none of us are going anywhere. You've been consistent for over 20 years, it's OK to take some time to yourself for an emergency. Consensual E-hugs all around and my sincerest condolences.

Hans Peter Bak

+1 to all below. *A giant virtuel hug*

David Fenger

Take care of yourself and the others near you who need it, and make sure to get enough sleep. We'll be here.

SufficientlyAdvanced

Take all the time you need, not just the time you currently think you need if that turns out to be shorter.

Orlet Soir

Take care and take as long as you need to sort this situation out. My condolences to you and others who were close with this person.

AstroChaos

Take care of yourself man, and know that we all are here for you however we can be.

BJ

*hugs*

Taigan

I wish there was something I could do to help you with what you’re going through. Take the time you need.

R L

Take ALL of the time you need. We'll be waiting.

Lady Hatty

I am so sorry for what you're going through. Please take all the time you need. Big hugs and may soft pets find their way to you for cuddles

Kitsune Kokoro

Take all the time you need. If comicking is helpful in distracting from the grief, by all means, but please don't feel obligated to get back to it on any sort of schedule. Being with your friends and loved ones, taking care of them, and being taken care of by them should always take precedence, particularly in a time like this.

Halbereth

Take your time. I'm glad you're giving yourself space; do that as much as you need. Remember, the kinds of people who love your caring, quirky comic are the kinds of people who would HATE for you to pressure yourself into doing anything you don't feel ready for. Picture a bunch of Eliot and Grace concerned expressions here. We're very sorry for your loss and will give you space.

Calvin-Skye

Sorry to hear about what happened. Hope you will hold up okay. Take whatever time you need.

Blind Mapmaker

I'm sorry to hear that. Take care and take your time.

Sleepyfoo

Definitely take care of your group and your own health, mental and otherwise. We will be here when you are ready.

octave

Take your time we will miss you but real life has to take priority
