Fun fact! The sword that Mai made for Maki was actually the sword Toji used against Geto, the soul split katana. It’s why Mai died after making it because it’s such a powerful cursed tool

This is how I understand it: Maki was born to be like Toji with no cursed energy at all. Mai, on the other hand, was born to be the opposite ,with full cursed energy potential. However, because they are twins, their potential was split but not equally. At birth, Maki received a small portion of Mai’s cursed energy, that's why Mai could never become a complete sorcerer with her full cursed energy potential and Maki could never fully become a sorcerer with zero cursed energy. As a result, both of them were stuck at a low-mid level, unable to reach what they were truly meant to be. After Mai’s death, the cursed energy that was “attached” to Maki disappeared with her. Now, Maki is finally complete as a sorcerer with absolutely zero cursed energy. That’s why her physical abilities exploded. No limits. No cursed energy. Pure, overwhelming strength like Someone we know 😎. Low-key , the Zenin clan is broken

So in jujutsu twins are not good. Twins count as one person. Mai has all the curse energy while maki have little to none. Because of that it hindered maki heavily restriction. Mai used the last of her life to create that sword for maki. Also mai took all the curse energy with her. Maki now has none. It puts her on par with toji
