I wouldn’t say he was using powerful magic to hide himself he simply went to the middle of nowhere and changed there appearance. ( that we know of) And you’d be surprised just how effective that really is

While it is possible Elias's father was using some heavy duty magic to disguise himself, I agree that it probably is Elias's mom especially considering she has been (hopefully just) MIA since the beginning of the comic and Elias hasn't mentioned her at all.

Maybe try a form of polyalphabetic cipher such as vigenere or even enigma? They are still stupid simple to set up, you can pretty easily determine how difficult you want the solve to be with or without the key, and you can run them through other languages for some flavor.

When we see his father he is human or at least human enough in appearance that no one questions if he’s human so I’d bank on it being his mom because from what we’ve seen so far they have a humanoid form but not a form that looks identical to a human

Oof. She promised she’d take care of him and now he’s been taken from her. I sympathize with wanting to burn the elf’s store down. I have to say though, I’m more curious as to which of Elias’s parents wasn’t human. The obvious choice is his dad, to explain his extraordinary knowledge of alchemy, runes, and dragons. But, we know next to nothing about his mom. She may have had to leave them for their protection and might still be out there somewhere. Also, if Elias’s dad is a normal human, he’s the type that would attract the attention of non-humans via his knowledge.

Wait he’s 1/2 (guessing dragon) THAT MEANS SO MANY THINGS WHEN IT COMES To Elias’s father and explains so much like why his father taught him Drakonreid and runes and how his father would have obtained this knowledge if my guess about 1/2 dragon is true
