Half Demons - Werewolfs
🕑 Added 2024-09-12 13:16:53 +0000 UTCLiving in the vicinity of dense and old forests contributed to the creation of myths and legends about demons inhabiting these inaccessible areas. Hunters had a special share in this as they spent most of their time in the forests.
This is how the story of werewolves - people who take the form of a wolf while retaining their human nature - was born.
The oldest records about wolf people inhabiting Slavic areas in ancient times describe them as people who, thanks to their magical powers, were able to transform into wolves at any time and for any amount of time. A little later, these creatures began to be associated with witches and wizards who, as punishment for an insult, transformed individuals (and sometimes entire families) into wolves and sentenced them to months, and sometimes even years, of living in wolf skin.
A werewolf could be distinguished from an ordinary wolf by its fur, and also by the fact that wolves were afraid of werewolves and did not allow them into their packs. Such a lonely werewolf often joined packs with similar ones to later kill animals on farms and even attack people. That's why werewolves were so feared in rural communities.
The thread of these semi-demonic characters remained alive in Polish villages for a long time, undergoing minor changes over time.
Based on this story please help me - which of these photos the best represent werewolfs? My favourites are 1-3 but I'd love to know your opinion and suggestions.

Thank you so much for this analysis. It helped me a lot. Werewolves was present in a lot of cultures (if nmot most) around the world so I am not sure if we'll ever find that out. I read that first mentions about slavic werewolves were made in ancient times by a Greek historian - Herodot from Helikarnas

What a well-written and entertaining story, Ania! It would be interesting to find out which was the first European culture that believed in werewolves, but we might never know for sure, although it couldn't have been too far north nor too far south because it had to be a place with lots of dense and old forests, as you said. These portraits are spectacular! I could find any excuse to talk about them, but to answer your question, here's a list: 2. Fantastic and wild, with a penetrating sinister gaze! You look like you're about to turn into a werewolf, or you just turned into a human again. 3. Awesome shot in the wilderness! I think you've almost finished becoming a human again. 4. I just couldn't resist mentioning it because it's absolutely amazing! You look so beautiful with that pose on the rock, and that entire place is totally awesome! 8. Your face and eyes look so gorgeous in the thick vegetation in that forest. You have become fully human again, but you still look a bit wild! P.S. Fabulous village woman style in 6 and 7! So delightful!

Based on your story of Slavic traditions with a demonic influence I would agree with 1-3. That being said... My view as a student of Native American tradition, which include shape shifting. I LOVE 4,5, and the last one.

Wow, such beautiful choices. I think 1-5, 8 & 10 all provide different aspects of the beauty, and dangers described in the story. My personal faves are as follows. 10 has a simple beauty. Your dog (a wolf) walks cautiously toward this beautiful creature alone in the snow. It's an excellent photo.... and I love your dog. 8 is intriguing and enticing, calling you to follow it into the darkness. 6 & 5, again....I love the special bond you have with your dog. Any photo with you two aux natural is stunning. 4 is great, as it seems to portray you coming out of the cold, dark woods to catch the first rays of warm sunshine. 3 is intriguing on so many levels. But photo number 1 is outstanding. The atmosphere fits perfect, and draws the eyes right to you. but it also tells a story. You've used your bewitching beauty, enticing your victim deep into the woods, but here you turn on him, your smile enticing and attracting him to this beautiful woman....but everything about you says, come here....now you're all mine. I love it. That and this may be the first time we've gotten to see your beautiful smile. Wow...just wow!
