Dziady - Forefathers Eve
🕑 Added 2024-11-02 17:04:30 +0000 UTCNovember 1st in Poland is a very important day for Catholics. That day we celebrate All Saints Day during which we visit graves of our closest ones... but it wasn't always the case.
Not so long ago people in small villages celebrated Dziady, which was looked down upon by church because to contact ancestors people took part in pagan rituals.
It is believed that during those rituals everyone wore a mask called kraboszka (which you can see in the first picture). Historians are still not sure why exactly slavic people made them but many think that the masks were some kind of protection against evil spirits that might be summon during the rituals. Without them the ghosts would recognise everyone and follow them home or harm them.
Hope you liked this backstory to this photoshoot. It was really fun creating the first part of this photoshoot so I made a short video to show to you where I took this photo because you wouldn't believe me otherwise :D
Love, Erinthul.
