Demons of the fields - Południca
🕑 Added 2024-04-14 20:23:28 +0000 UTCThe most common field demons were Południce (Noonwraiths). They were - depending on a region - women dressed in white dresses wandering between fields of grain or a delicate blue-gray mist floating over the fields in the evening. To become a Noonwraith woman had to die right before or after her wedding.
Południce appeared in the fields when the crops were in bloom, and after the harvest they went away to distant lands, from where they returned next year. The cyclical nature of their stay was a reflection of the Slavic cult of birth and death in nature
These demons were unfriendly to humans. They gave people fainting, headaches and sunburn.
They often kidnapped women and children, leaving them at the mercy of wild animals and the forces of nature. Due to the fear of Noonwraits, people avoided field work at high noon, and no one dared to venture into the fields at midnight. A sickle or a scythe, which they often held in their hands, helped them scare people away. In pre-Christian times, their existence was an explanation for diseases caused by long-term exposure to the Sun.
I am honestly leaning towards the first photo because I like the explanation where Południca is a light blueish mist so I also did a sfw version with the help of AI :D
Of course I would appreciate your feedback. Which photo, in your opinion, works best?
Love, Erinthul.

This one is so tough! I think the first image fits the folklore lore perfectly and it's an amazing shot! The flowers and the field really compliments the shot. Beautiful! But I love the shot look over your shoulder at the cabin. One of my favorites!

I prefer #2 over #1, there's something more haunting about it...

This is really difficult because they are all so beautiful but the first and last really fit the mythology. <3

Definitely 1st for NSFW and 2nd for the SFW version. Regardless, they're fantastic photos x

I think either the first of the last work best for the folklore! Both really cool photos though

They're all good, but I agree with your pick of #1. It fits the storyline perfectly! I like it.
