I now remember you being fairly certain of that before, but the dust issue occurred to me suddenly for some reason and I thought I'd toss it out there just in case.

I would say it is the main board. Because it is the bottom card that crashes the system. If I swap the cards, the bottom one keeps crashing. If I swap power cables feeding them, it is still the bottom one that keeps crashing. Lately it was crashing even if it was doing pretty much nothing. There is no SLI cable installed, PhysX is set to be on the primary card only, there are no displays connected to it and yet, it was still causing the crashes (at least that is what Windows was claiming - that the card has been removed from the PCI-E slot).

More’s the pity; the vexing mystery remains.

I have an air compressor and I'm taking all my computers apart about three times a year to blow all the dust out so not that.

Random thought. If you’ve had your computer for a good long while and never opened it up to clean and blow out the inside, that may help. Perhaps on long renders you’re hitting a thermal wall due to reduced cooling capacity.
