Kroger, Walmart, and Meijer in my town all get their stuff from the same warehouses/distribution centers. If anyone is price gouging, it would be whoever is selling the food to the stores we all buy from-not the stores themselves. All the major grocery stores are buying the majority of their stuff from the same few manufacturers and distributors. All of them have an insanely high amount of write offs they require because of the sheer amount of food that gets thrown away or has to be marked down from the regular price for whatever reason (usually being near or at the sell by date or damaged). The majority of profits they make are on the non-food related items or people stupidly paying full price for things that have coupons or sales on them.
