Not sure if you noticed, but in Fishtail she says “don’t you dare say that you’ll braid my hair, if you don’t really care” and then “you’re so funny, I wish i could skinny dip inside your mind” denoting that she’s insecure about this guy in many ways… on the following song, Peppers, she (or Tommy Genesis) says that he can braid her hair and do a fat criss-cross, which means having sex in the car… so “braid my hair” in Fishtails, is, in my opinion, the guy sliding his hand through her hair, not actually DOING braids in her hair. On Peppers she also says “take a minute for yourself, skinny dip in MY mind” which means that she is sexually confident now… Probably the relationship with this guy (Donoughue, her “current” boyfriend mentioned in Kinstugi that she wants to spend the life with) is confusing, because there’s good sex, but he cannot decide if he really wants her for life or not. So basically both songs are together because they tell this story. That’s my theory 😅

I have been waiting for this review for so long! It’s definitely my favorite album of the year so far. Watching you react to the second half of A&W, the drop in Fishtail, all of Fingertips… So good!! I knew when Venice Bitch came on that you were gonna be so excited too! Kintsugi context.. “Chucky” is her sister. “Chucky was there for 3 out of 4, I was there for one cause I couldn’t be there for the one who was closest to me” She had 3 relatives pass in a somewhat short time span, the one she was closest to she couldn’t be there for because she was about to go sing for the Prince of Monaco… She was told on a phone call a couple hours before she sang for the Prince and says in Fingertips, she sat in the shower and gave her 2 seconds to cry and then kind of locked it back up so she could perform. Kintsugi itself is a Japanese art form where they take broken pottery and put it back together by bonding it in liquid gold to make something even more beautiful from the brokenness. If you take the meaning of what it is and relate it to your emotions and grieving in the case of this song.. You have to feel it and let yourself break so that any light can shine in and you can heal. Let the light in (pun intended 🤓) and make something even more beautiful out of it from the heartbreak or loss. You can tell it’s a deeply personal song for her and it has become one of my favorite Lana songs of all time. Can’t really listen to it without getting emotional even still! The whole album is brilliant (aside from the Judah interlude in my opinion) Can’t wait to see your review of Portals! Thanks so much for doing what you do Ajay 💙

Oh my goooooosh, I've been waiting for this since forever. My favs were, well, everything except the interludes and Margaret (A&W my fav), this album was that good. Peppers will probably grow on you, it went from being a skip to literally top 5 on the album for me, also the chorus was Tommy singing, not lana. If you do a revisit to this album I would strongly recommend to read the lyrics as you're listening, especially on kintsugi and fingertips, those songs are lyrically mesmerising as well as vocally, I tear up when listening to them, she knew what she was doing. Everything is connected, there's one big story and the more you pay attention to Lana's lyrics on, actually, any album, the more you get enveloped in her story, she is a master of pouring her soul into these lyrics and there's so much substance and beauty, that's why I love Lana. Also NFR revisit???! YES.

I stopped everything I was doing when I saw the tweet that this was released. I came directly to watch the full video. I liked all the songs that you mentioned. I listened to the album in March when it was released at Midnight. By that point in the year the singles from the album "Did you know there is a tunnel under ocean blvd?" and "A&W" had grown on me. I knew I was in for a treat. In my first listen, I loved "The Grants", "Both Interludes", "Paris, Texas", "Let the Light In", "Fishtail", "Peppers, and obvi "Taco Truck x VB"!!! I knew I would listen to the album again and again and again! I fell in love with everything over and over again. Artistically the album has made me appreciate her entire artistry and has made me revisit artist like MARINA. I am rediscovering the sound of the pop and their influence on my life. Anyways, I am excited for the new era of pop that these talented woman have ushered in!!!!
