My favourite songs were bad idea right, vampire, lacy, love is embarrassing and pretty isn't pretty. Pretty isn't pretty was my fav tho only cause i love the sound of it. That kind of music sounds really nostalgic to me and i always love trying to find songs that have that kind of vibe in it. And the other songs definitely grow on you on more listens, and some songs really give early 2000's rock which is probably why i like the sound of the album cause i grew up with that.

I've listened to it a few times. I don't hate it and some songs (love is embarrassing, pretty isn't pretty, lacy) did grow on me a bit. With that said I do agree that something is missing and there isn't much diversity. A lot of people are saying it's a 100/100 but those are definitely paid critiques because there's no way anyone genuinely believes it's that strong. I'm a pretty generous rater so my initial assessment was 85/100 but honestly after considering some points you've made and relistening I think it's more like a 75/100.

i think this album HEAVILY focused on her struggles with fame. i understand why she writes about these struggles, but when you’re putting out music for people to relate to, those types of songs don’t generally attach to the public, especially in your second album. taylor has made these types of songs, but only one or two on one album and it wasn’t until her 5th album that she started to talk about it. i also had the same issue with the amount of similar sounding songs. it just didn’t do it for me that there wasn’t much diversity. i still like these songs a lot, and i love olivia! can’t wait to see where she goes since she’s clearly very talented 😊

I love pop & rock music equally, and I'm happy to see Olivia explore that pop-punk/punk rock sound even more on this album, though the only song on Guts I truly like is "bad idea right?". I will listen to some of the other upbeat songs again as well but they're just "okay". The ballads aren't doing anything for me, though. There's just too many - 5 ballads out of 12 is way too much for my taste, and in the end they all sound similar to me. I do love a good ballad but these unfortunately are not captivating for me personally. Overall I like this album more than Sour but I'm not crazy about it either.. I appreciate Olivia's artistry, her aesthetics, and her songwriting, but I guess I'll have to wait and see if any of her future projects really grab me.

Music is subjective! The y2k Avril feel isn’t for everyone and that’s ok! Somehow in my opinion, this album feels a bit immature and underwhelming. Like if I heard Sour & this I would think GUTS came before it. Either way, happy for everybody who enjoyed it. Vampire and Lacy are the two standouts for me.

I will say, I wish vampire was an EP and released before the album. I don’t think vampire fits in the album and I wish she had another song that would have been a stronger single. This album is not everything people say it is. It really is a little more polished, solid and more pop/punk oriented than Sour was. But it's not as intriguing as Sour was. For me, this album has very forgettable songs that don't say much compared to what she said on Sour. I think the album needed more songs with a thematic shift to counterbalance the love songs. But I think this image of the rebellious, frustrated and angry teenager sounds interesting to younger people, but it sounds boring, tedious and already seen by older audiences. Even because we had Paramore and Avril Lavigne, which I followed and prefer more. However, even though this album is 06/10, I still think that Olivia will fill stadiums and be an artist with a huge name within pop/punk genre since she speaks very well to the younger audience and is aware of this, she knows who she is , what she wants to say and precisely to whom she wants to say it. I think she's still charismatic and intriguing as a person. But I hope OR3 is different from what she's done and takes more risks artistically.

I love your honesty! And agree, sour was much better than this. I think it would have gone better with different producers on the songs. They very much all sound the same. The lyrics are quirky and great. Especially the ballads. They also throw you off guard with the lack of instrumentals with the ballads, then slam you into an over produced chaos right after.

When I first heard GUTS I was a lil disappointed to because I was expecting a follow up to Sour, I recommend listening to it again, but in a sense put urself in her shoes: young dumb coming out of a messy break up and having all these emotions having to act fine when ur not fine etc the album almost flows like a break up if you get what I’m saying, E.g all American bitch is like the stage when you're saying ur fine/perfect but your really fine/perfect

But on here there’s just something about the production that is just too overwhelming maybe? I really wanted to like this a lot more but to me it felt like a veeeeery minute shift from sour. If anything incredibly similar to it but I’m all the wrong ways. she expanded on the punk rock tracks from sour and made it more of that same sound while still incorporating the very ballad, singer song writer, feel of sour but missing a lot of the poetry and melodic touches sour really hit home with. It’s an ok album, and it had to be so hard to follow the first. She tried to keep it safe with something intended to be so similar to sour. I just don’t think it worked here.

I probably liked GUTS because I didn't like Sour; I felt like Sour was a bit too whiny compared to this album. Your video was my second listen to it in full and though I still like it, I'm realizing her new album is basically a Rated-R version of Sour with some more introspection. I agree with your last comment that the questions she's trying to get answers to will be given in time. And it'll also be whenever the hell she decides to move the goddamn hell on from who she was singing about in the first place. I feel she is capable of giving a Melodrama type of album and I'm waiting for it.

First of all, I love your sincerity Ayjay. 🫶🏼 Honestly, I loved the punk songs. I understand that you didn't vibe with the album, because, it’s not a genre that you like in the first place. Although, you liked “bad idea right?” So yeah, it depends. All I can say is…yes! The slow songs (the ballads) maybe aren’t as powerful as they were in SOUR.

Olivia is trying too hard in this album imo. The y2k influence is a little too strong and frankly uninspired. She shines her brightest on her stripped back ballads where the message isn’t diluted by the try hard production/composition. I feel like the majority of people amazed with this album are gen z because as a millennial the Avril/Paramore/00s punk influences are heaaaavy and thus feel … unoriginal. Her penmanship slays tho

this album to me is kinda like SOUR deluxe, or maybe like some rejects from SOUR mixed with some new songs. Nothing dramatically different but still listenable imo.

i think that this album is great! i definitely understand why it’s not everyone’s favorite because it definitely is a large shift from SOUR. my favorite songs are lacy, get him back, and making the bed. i actually love the punk rock vibe because it shows how she’s growing into her own and expanding to new genres. i think also it may be hard to relate since the lyrics are a lot more specific and story heavy. it’s definitely an album you can tell was written by a 19 year old but i think it’s done in a way that’s very self-aware and tongue-in-cheek. thank you for the content Ajay, i always love hearing what you have to say and how you view different bodies of work <3

omg yay you reacted! me personally GUTS definitely grew on me after the second listen and after several more listens i realised how much i actually love this album… i think because it’s such a shift from SOUR, it takes a second to adjust to her change in maturity. i deffo think you’ll love it after a second listen Ajay!!!

honestly i agree w u 100%! some of the songs are really fun and i do enjoy some of the ballads, but i felt like the topic was the same throught the whole album also. which is fine, but i got kinda tired of it after the 5th song about how the guy manipulated her. definitely a few songs i'll be returning to tho!
