nutmeg is a standard ingredient in the mother sauce bechamel, so if you’re making a cheese sauce from bechamel it would naturally contain nutmeg. but tbh i probably wouldn’t bother with it. and i’ve always used prepared mustard, but a powder might work too!

I'd be curious to know how those fair compare to the canned "Macaroni Cheese" that you just showed us. I'm partial to the Kraft one. I'm not a huge fan of homemade macaroni and cheese. Of course, I'm not a big fan of cheese in general so that might have something to do with it. xD

It's so adorable when you ramble on about anything. So fun to watch. I didn't even know canned mac and cheese existed, I get mine from a box lol. Glad to know I'm not missing out on anything. Here is a tip when taste testing things if you plan to do another of these. Not that it might have helped since they were all terrible but you need to drink water between them to reset your pallet. Also with smelling, you use vanilla extract. That way everything doesn't taste and smell the same.

mm, i think in the video i say that i am quite confident that these were all made in the same factory - i think we can say that they are without a doubt. i can only assume the same company makes other canned goods that are better because there’s no way this horrible crap is keeping them afloat.

Who is keeping these manufacturers in business? I'm curious if they're all made in the same factory and just packaged under different brands. It's more common than you think. Notice how the cans themselves look identical and its only the paper labels that are different? And you checked all the labels and they recipes muat be similar. If they're a semi-batch process they can just change the ingredients or ratio slightly and change the lot number, slap a different paper label on it (distributors usually specify labels for marketing reasons) and sell it to a different distributor. That's the only way I can imagine a canning factory actually being able to stay in business making this... "food" (Source: I actually work in a factory that does this kind of stuff, US based). And yes, in the US we have ingredients listed in order of quantity (greatest to least proportion) but we don't have percentages like you do on those cans. Or at least I haven't seen it. Maybe different states have more stringent requirements than Oklahoma.

i’d also always rather make my own. my fav macaroni cheese recipe has sundried tomatoes and anchovies blended into the sauce and it’s so delicious. the anchovies don’t make it taste like fish, they just make it so deeply savoury. anyway, yeah, i wasn’t eating any more of that. i washed the sauce off the pasta and put it in the birdfeeder in my garden. the pigeons loved it
