I love how "lived-in" Sir Mallory feels as a character. You can feel the ways he's shaped by the rigid mores of this society and by the tension he feels between his romanticized courtly position, and his notion of himself as a man not meant for softness. *also I love any addition to the Dan's Lung Extended Universe 🫁

Dan and his lung strike again! I would chafe at being an ornament for the king, too, but at least we have some small measure of escape. I love this script, but it gave me a brainstorm when you brought up the part we were playing in "the hunt": we could've used a real arrow and some livestock blood to fake our own death. The attack would be an even better excuse than if the king was just so drunk that he grabbed the wrong arrows. Aside from a bribed healer and undertaker, the palace would be none the wiser.

I just love the cadence for Sir Mallory's voice. I had to listen a second time immediately after the first, just to pay attention to the hush when he's speaking softer. And the little chuckles and caught breath for the hunting outfit! Or even his complaining! It's got me by the throat. I do have to say, it's so fucking wild, the idea of having your consort dress up as a deer, and having other people dress up as dogs, to pretend hunt someone as, presumably, foreplay. The king is wild for that.
