Evening, Patrons! After the whole 'piracy' fiasco, I figured it's about time I show off some more progress for the actual game. Today I've been working on the lighting engine, in the hopes of giving the underground caverns a darker, bleaker feel. This screenshot shows off complete darkness - everything is pitch black, except for the area around Alicia and her bullet. Every important thing in the game will have their own unique glow like this, and you can be certain there will be plenty of unusual plants and creatures giving off their own distinct colors.
Now, if that screenshot looks too dark, don't worry - with the system I have in place, I can set each room of the game to have its own level of darkness. This, in addition to object lighting, will ensure I can make each area look exactly as dark as I want it to. Overall, it looks a lot better in motion, but the screen capture I tried came out far too dark.

-Side note, you can also get a little look at the new HUD! It's fully functional now, though I intend on sprucing up the art a bit, as it's rather plain looking.

Naw, it wouldn't be frustrating for those dark dwelling creatures that don't get along with light and probably wouldn't mind taking advantage of the situation Alicia would be put in. My imagination can run wild sometimes =P Good point with the visual changes. Priority should go to Alicia's poses since it's an adult game

Upgrades won't be giving her a visual change, unfortunately. The amount of art assets it would take to do that would be staggering. I already need several variations of Alicia in various poses, lol. I have doubts that removing the light source on Alicia would be a good choice for the gameplay, but if it ends up feeling right, who knows? I just don't want the player to feel like the game is being unfair at any point. If she lost her light source and had no way to see in a very dark area, the game would quickly get frustrating rather than fun.
The upgrades in game; were you planning on giving them a visual appearance once equip on Alicia? If there is a clothing destruction percentage via the amount of damage taken could the light source break along side the cloths? The darkness would become a true terror if that was the case or maybe you have something far more devious in mind =O

Glad you like it! Not every area will be that dark, and Alicia will eventually have ways of lighting up those areas, but it definitely provides me some interesting chances for level design. And fancy glowing alien things.
I don't know where to start with this. So many awesome things could spring out of the darkness. I'll be looking forward to this part =)

Thanks! I actually just noticed a slightly layering issue on the HUD I need to fix, but I'm glad you like it anyway! Yes, there's a secondary weapon. There will be a few you unlock as you progress through the game, and you can switch between them at will. There are no hand-held things like torches though, they're all upgrades to the gun. I'd be willing to share the list of planned upgrades, if you guys want that spoiler. :P

That is a damn good hud you got there. Is there going to be a sort of secondary slot/weapon? Like a torch of some sorts for dark areas or will there be just upgrades that she can get to help her on the journey?
