FYI the whole “don’t dress up when performing stand up” thing is NOT a sexist, exclusively female problem. As an amateur comedian at an open mic you want to be relatable, dressing up actively works against that, regardless of gender. It is only when you are already famous, performing on a famous stage, and recording a special, that you can MAYBE get away with dressing nice.

Stand Up is an interesting beast. My brother tried doing it. He asked me to write his material for him though and then he'd alter the jokes to fit his style. He had mild success but tells me all the time I should do it because my sets on paper are hilarious. But I don't think I will. The "guy who is here every week" thing is so real though. We had a guy like that at the place my brother did stand up. He'd come in every week and do discord tier red pill jokes about society and get no laughs. Like. I seen him do his sets 3 times and every time was a bomb. Idk how he does it. I'd never set foot on stage again.
