yeah but he just goes along with it, despite recognizing it as an Eternal Sunshine type situation

also most of the SEC is dead

Uh, the way I understand it, Nathaniel gave Andy half of Benny's trust fund, and half of Benny's inheritance. The trust fund is $200 million, so Andy gained about $100 million. The 40% of Inner Light (which includes the interest in the movie studio) doesn't happen until Nate dies, so no SEC issues, whether or not it's a private company. It will probably be worth much more by then because Nate is managing it. The 100 million complete with investment advisor could have been a clever con designed to suck in Emily and Sarah's money because of reports of amazing returns and leave them holding worthless crypto currency. Or it was a friendly gesture. Em knows best. Maybe. Probably. It makes sense to have a money manager who shares your interests. It may not make sense to have a money manager who is trying to cleanse her memory. Time will tell.

One of the things I hope Mali is able to clear up is the 40% of Nathanial's company that was gifted to Andy. Seeing as anything over 9% would require public disclosure and such a large percentage of a fund/corporation would be big financial news and lead to lots of questions. Hopefully she can manage to help Andy get ahead of any problems he might be looking at with the SEC and help Andy set up a holding company that is somewhat shielded to help restore some anonymity to the transfer. Also it would then allow Andy a vehicle to purchase much needed hanger & studio spaces and other commercial spaces with some anonymity which will further allow him to do good deeds for his friends without them being fully aware of it. Like have a company offer Xander an incredibly favorable lease on a recently renovated garage space without it directly connecting back to Andy (at least initially). Also since part of Andy's recently acquired invested capital is 40% of Nathanial's stake in the major studio working on developing projects based on his IPs (either openly or through a more discreet relatively anonymous holding company), as well as his influence with major players with those projects, one might assume he would easily be able to negotiate an EP credit on all of those projects. Not to mention all the other members of his family heavily involved in other developing other projects, he is probably going to benefit from having a family production company. Given his previously acknowledged naivety when it comes to film making which I assume will continue. I would love to see Sara, Maya, and Emily draft Ash into creating a really cool title card and business logo for "Rookie Productions" that they can unify some of their efforts with communal resources and tools, to say nothing of giving a certain credibility standard people look for as productions turn out well. Just a thought, but that 40% of the fund/company has really been a thing I keep coming back to as not knowing if it was an intentional trap or an oversight not dealt with for a while and with the new financial advisor finally in place I look forward to seeing that either resolved or further develop into a whole new spinning plate Andy has to keep in the air on top of everything else.

I find it odd that there isn’t any mention of the medical team having an ethical discussion about this. She could decide to ask but who decided to agree to that ask?

I’d think Andy would be reticent introducing a mind-wiped stranger into his meticulously cultivated harem. Especially since said unknown’s recall is being narrowed by an unknown and potentially disastrous overdose. I hope you show not only his breakdown of critical thinking in accepting her terms (which will almost certainly cause resentment between Andy and Emily down the road) but also the enormity of Emily’s deceit. This isn’t “I cheated on my diet by eating an extra cookie.” It reveals a major character flaw. She didn’t make a decision in the heat of the moment; she CHOSE to manage him by omitting a crucial detail for days, informing him only after the timing became urgent and he had to decide immediately. She deliberately robbed him of the time to think the decision through and she even alluded to it. This is manipulation that impacts everybody in the house. Emily needs a spanking, and not in a good way. I’d reconsider partnership with her if I were Andy and put her on probation. Now that people can be reassigned, they can also be exiled from the house without signing their death warrant.

I really enjoyed this chapter. Will update this post/comment entry later as I don't want to spoil for others...

Yes, CKK raises some important issues that may be leading us to a slippery slope. Andy has always been adamant about insuring his partners are comfortable and accepting of this new world order and specifically he and his families place in it. As was pointed out this is a major manipulation and as Andy has some time in the future to reflect this may become a point of at best, friction, or at worst a serious wedge between Andy and Emily (and possibly between Emily and some of the more protective partners, who may see it for what it is more clearly than Andy). I cannot see the Andy I feel I know just blithely accepting the near total loss of a partners memories and potentially their personhood and personality - regardless of the intention behind that loss. That one of his ‘wives’ possibly encouraged this (or at best did little apparently to discourage it) while concealing it until it the last possible moment from him will eventually become a cancer on his conscience and trust that will require some heavy remediation. I cannot wait to see if this evolves into more than a speed bump and how this is resolved.

This plot point is something that's going to be carried forward for a lot of the second book, but I think it's important to remember that people all deal with trauma in very different ways. Em is definitely manipulative with Andy from time to time, as we've seen, but whether or not that's malicious or Emily just trying to keep things from getting rocky, that's a matter of perspective. But Emily is also very clearly a victim of some pretty heavy trauma over the years, which we've seen peeking out around the edges here and there. Believe me when I say that I know what a significant thing I've introduced here, and that it isn't something that's going to just vanish in the background. Andy makes it pretty damn clear how uncomfortable all of this makes him, so expect that to certainly carry forward.

Ok CP if you aren't trying to write Em as a horrifying sociopath who happily manipulates Andy you might want to revisit this plot point in the future. She deliberately withholds what she knows will be a dealbreaker until Andy is entirely committed and Mali has the brain-damage inducing double dose? And she's on board with this plan to begin with? It's like she agreed to lend this depressed girl a gun, and said "Don't make such a big deal about it, she only took one bullet anyway." There's "I can't stop her if she's determined" and then there's "I'm going to enable this and manipulate my fiance into supporting it." It'd be different if Mali herself forced their hands by doubling up her dose and only told Em when they talk pre-imprinting. Mali's a stranger and not meant to be thinking clearly. The obvious practical (she lived with this guy while in school and building her career skills, does she forget them? How will she ever be able to comprehend her own history without any awareness her fiancee ever existed?) and ethical (doctors essentially allowing someone to induce brain damage while mid psychological crisis) problems with this are easier to excuse. But it comes off really cold blooded from Emily.

In the remastered version of Book 1 that should be out by the end of the month, all 50 chapters of B1 will have a date at the top. So it's coming!

Todd Garrison

I’m really enjoyed the latest chapter and all of Book 1, however in the last few chapters you have added a date a at top of the chapter. I wish all chapters had in Book 1 and 2 had that to continue a timeline.

Loneshot

I am really enjoying the ongoing story. Book 1 was full of setup and worldbuilding, now I can’t wait to see what happens next as our heroes explore the new world that has come about.
