Status update Episode 3
🕑 Added 2019-07-19 05:55:26 +0000 UTCJust two more days and I'm fully back from my vacation, meaning I have two whole weeks to work full-time on game development. I have recharged my batteries, but I did work pretty much this week.
I have posed a lot of static renders and only a few scenes remain to be posed. Two scenes are missing some dialogue.
I have about 5-8 more animations to pose and render. The current animation queue has ~15 animations left to render.
I've done several coding tasks and there are ~10 left to do, as I always remember new things I want/need to include before release. Some of these tasks are minor tasks while others are major tasks.
Let me show you something I've worked on this week!
I have changed the layout of several menus to a more consistent and clean design.
I have also improved the Load/Save menus to allow more slots per page and also ensured that the game is future proof when I eventually will split the game into chapters.
Your old saves will look a bit weird the first time you play, because the size of the thumbnails has been reduced. All you have to do is load and save your game again to fix that.
Even though Episode 3 will be very big, in terms of the binary size (approximately 3.8-4.0 GB), I will still include Episode 4, in the so called Chapter 1, before splitting the game into a second chapter.
What's next?
As soon as it's possible, I will send the script and a beta version to my proof reader and beta testers. This process will take ~2 weeks once it begins.
I'm really pushing for an August release, but it will be my PCs that decide if that's possible.
Once I have posed all renders and animations, I will be able to give you an approximation of the release date.
Today, however, I can reveal that Episode 3 will be given the title "Episode 3 - 100%".

I'm looking into my options and will likely purchase, yet another, license for file distribution up to 20 GB size. But once I start splitting the game into chapters, I will probably merge all episodes whenever there's another new chapter being created. I.e., when Chapter 3 rolls out, I can merge Chapter 1 and 2 into a single binary. That's probably the smartest way to go that requires the least amount of work.

Would be great to have a single archive for the game, but I guess you're limited to "free" file-sharing services which have download limits

It's absolutely needed in a game like this, imo. The final goal of this project is one huge game downloaded at once (hopefully through Steam). If I ensure that saves work early on, it will be a cakewalk to put it all together later and everyone will be happy. :)

That's great to know! Most games which move to multiple chapters often give defaults saves with basic choices filled in, or they allow you to define what things you chose in the previous chapter. However if you're allowing us to use our previous saves that's very cool!

Yes, you will NEED old saves to continue. I know that games, like Telltale games, sometimes simulates choices and allows you to start in the middle of the adventure, but for BADIK it won't work as I make use of the seemingly tiniest of chocies later on in the game. Also, if someone is deadset on not wanting old saves, or saves from other chapters, clogging up the save/load menu, I will post an extra guide on how to name files and perform file management.

You will download a new binary. Start the game and load a save that's been saved near the end of the previous Episode. All saves will be sharing the same folder, you can't load saves from different chapters, but you can overwrite/delete any save. All the user has to think about is to save once in the end of the previous chapter and load that save in the new chapter. The only downside to this is having saves from other chapters shown in the same load/save menu, but that is a minor inconvenience and in the future I will also distribute complete binaries of the game without the chapter being split.

100% is the title of the episode. What it implies, you'll have to find out by playing it. Hell week is still being split into episodes. It has changed from two episodes to "at least two episodes" . I will know more when I start planning Episode 4.

Also chapter 2, any idea how the game saves will work or will it just be a patch we apply on top of the existing game?

Great news, glad youβre enjoying your vacation! As to the 100%, does that mean ep3 will include all of hell week or will it still be split into two episodes?
