Updated feature reveal - Episode 7

This post contains minor spoilers for an updated feature in episode 7, but it's nothing that's story related.

This week's status update is a bit different than usual.
I wanted to present parts of an updated/new feature that will appear, starting episode 7.
Many of you have guessed it already, and for others, it might come as a minor surprise.
I have worked hard on updating the in-game phone to accommodate the future needs of the game.
The phone is updated starting episode 7, so it's not a retroactive change. The MC just got a new phone, and it's going to be an improved version of the old variant.
So, what I've done is a rewrite of the phone code. I've left functionality that works well, added new functionality that's needed, updated the GUIs, and more.
I could probably talk about the phone features for hours, but I have to limit myself and let you discover most on your own.
So, I'm not going to go overtly into details, as it's also a work in progress feature, but I will show you a few of the implemented features and my thoughts for them below.
The main GUI is completely new, but it should still feel familiar.
Note that the phone in the picture is from a playthrough without mini-games.
During free-roam events, there's a music bar displaying the name of the song that's currently playing. You can toggle this bar on or off if you'd rather see more of the wallpaper behind it.
In this picture you can see three new apps, and also notice the absence of some. Some apps may have been removed, some apps may have been merged.
The two new apps in this picture are 2D art and Pack Quest. You've come into contact with both of them in episode 6.
They will be handled directly from your phone starting episode 7.
With the exception of a few apps, most apps have been (or will be) revamped.
Two apps I'm particularly excited about are the Music and Bios apps.
In the Music app, you can now filter songs by genre, and I have included a genre for licensed music that many of you wanted to be able to play.
You can also set songs as favorites and have a playlist with just your favorite tunes.
This means that you can choose to have a customized playlist that you can play during free roam events.
I can't show you too much of the Bios app, but it's going to be a tilted version of the phone where each character will have their own screen with past choices and events.
Without getting into detail, a subset of other features that you can expect from the new phone are:
- Customizable/favorite/randomized wallpaper functionality.
- Simple emoticons in text messages.
- Animated transitions and screens.
The phone feels very modern and it's an enjoyable experience using it.
I hope that you will come to love it as much as I already do.

Using it to have a quick connection with the side chicks from time to time is fun! I guess you could achieve a similar result with texting but Swiper seems naughtier. 🤷🏽♂️

Agreed, Ive played throught like 40+ times at this point and every time its always "Ugh, I forgot the swyper part." I feel like sometimes its too much. But it does play a big part in the story on what the MC wants yknow?

I agree Swyper had served it purpose as far as the story goes. Wouldn't mind keeping or losing it as long as it fits with the story. Too much Swyper content would be a bit distracting in my opinion.

You see. In my opinion, the Swyper served a purpose for the story. Now it's not needed, since it's gonna get more serious with LIs. And BaDIK is a mainly about the story (for me at least) and I have a huge respect for Doc for making this awesome game. Part of its brilliance is, I think, that he's not having supporters telling him, what to do. He has his vision and he's gonna put that vision into this project no matter if some of us agree or disagree, no matter how we vote. So if he chose to remove Swyper, I believe it's what's best for the story and the game.

Great game, with this many patreon supporters i would expect voice acting/dialogue, much less ambitious and supported flash games have had it. Swype is one of my favorite things in the game because it felt like a real dating app, i agree with others it's a mistake removing it. You can't make everyone happy but it was already in the game, next time just vote for feature removal or adding.

I think you're referring to this bug that I fixed earlier and will be included in v070. - Fixed a bug in episode 3 where Quinn's text message would cause an error if you entered and exited Jill's chat first.

Just found out a funny but small bug. lol. So in Ep3 if you text Jill then go to quinns message about the Special at the end of episode you can keep replying to her saying "Sweet Dreams, Jill.". Its dumb I think its funny Note: Only if you didnt reply to Jill saying goodnight
Some things are actually mentioned in dialogue I believe, not to give any spoilers but I recall tommy mentioning a response I put on rooster.
The time between updates is 4 to 6 months now. It was less early on, since the story hadn't branched as much. However, there are a lot of variables for the game to track now that change the way the game progresses. By the way, Dr Pinkcake does everything by himself, so 4 to 6 months is amazing to me given how long and well made each episode is.

HUGE fan here. Just discovered this game about a week ago on Steam and well I've played it 8 times through and became a member on Patreon because of how much I loved it. I was just curious, how long was typical to wait for the new episode? obviously i want the best and am in no rush, but was just curious what to expect. Thanks!

swyper outlived its self. If you play to the end of episode 6, then you will get that. Swyper had potential, but I'm guessing that it was beyond the scope of what DPC wants to do. Furthermore, I also think it is a sign that relationships with the main girls are going to get more involved now.

No, I have no plans for that and I fear that it could be potential legal problems implementing that. I know that some AAA games allow it, but I think it's best if the game stays in safe territory with proper licenses.

Looks great, but I have a couple of questions. Since this is the non-mini-games version, may I assume that Skills, Brawler, and Shuffle will appear in the mini-games version? Is Backgrounds integrated into another feature? In Episode 6, the MC mentions being disenchanted with Swyper. I guess that one has been shit-canned for the future. Where is Pet names? I hope I can get to that one somewhere, and it is not as extinct as Swyper! :)

When the MC got a new phone, I started to wonder if there would actual be any change to the phone feature in the game. Kudos for that, Doc. Particularly, I find the phone to be a very fun aspect of the game during free-roam events. The rooster is one of my favorite features in the game. I don't think it actually makes any impact on the story or the interactions between characters and MC, but I think it's very entertaining.

With all due respect, I think that the phrase "Isabella offered me to work in the library" should be either "Isabella offered to let me work in the library" or "Isabella offered me work in the library"; as it is, the phrase "Isabella offered me to work in the library" suggests that Isabella, in the library, is offering the MC out to others as a servant. I mean, Isabella is dominant, but not that dominant, I think. :)

As this is included in Episode 7, it will hit Steam when Season 2 hits Steam. It's not a retroactive change, the old phone will still be used between episodes 1-6.

My number one annoyance with RenPy phones in general is having to move my mouse like a flipper game when going back one step, especially when you're browsing back and forth a lot. Some mouse/keyboard shortcut for the home/back button would be fantastic.
