Yeah an interlude is nice to create some world building. Even from different characters (not in the same interlude, and not one after the other, make some time between interludes); also don't make it multiple chapters except if the idea is really nice because what matters is still the main story. Also I don't think only the oceanic life can be interesting, I obvs don't know how you want to evolve the story, but I reckon the situation on land can be as interesting. :)

I think interludes with the whales could be interesting or other sea creatures that have been alluded to (like the monster from the first area), but unless it relates to Henry then it can be a take away from the story. Now if you want to use the interlude to set the stage for future interactions then that can be useful:

I think interludes are great! They serve as a nice downtime to break up the action after you finish a high tension point in the story, like after/before a major evolution/fight

Beeees!

I would appreciate a maurice pov down the line once their relationship becomes more established

The interludes i hate is when its like every other chapter or multiple chapter interludes. 2 is pushing it but after that its too much

Interludes are great as long its not too long or frequent or both. Good in moderation imo

I personally find that unless the interludes directly relate to the plot or the characters within I find them annoying.

I think short interludes are a great way to add more world building without the mc being there. I usually have a good time reading them as long as they aren't happening too often!
