0.9 Retrospective - Third time lucky...

Hi everyone. And thank you for joining me for this week's public post.
Firstly, a quick PSA, for those who may not have seen, Missy has now been updated to 0.9.4 which gets rid of a host of bugs, including the Avenging Angel start failure, the problem with the underwear in Jan Winters and the weird scenario where you could "win" against Madeline after deciding to "lose" to her.

Meanwhile, the School Council poll to decide the headline quest of 0.10 is entering its final stages. It looks as though Jessica's Relationship Quest and Chapter Seven are going to be joined in the final round by the surprise entry of It's Just a Phase, a story in which Missy will work her magic on a straight(ish) girl. We'll have a winner soon so more on that when we do. If you want to have your say, have a look at the School Council tier!

For now though, the traditional outro and satisfaction survey on the quest that was. As those of you that have been here before will know, I talk a little about the quest, saying things that I now can because you've played it. So if you haven't played it, stop reading right now unless you want spoilers!
Slave to Love is an idea that I've had kicking around in my head for some time. Role-reversal is very popular and it keeps things fresh to have a slave turn the tables on her mistress rather than have Missy meet just another dominant girl at school.
As this was a side-quest, it also gave me far more freedom to give the player choices. While this didn't mean that I could offer domme players their own story where they're on top the whole time, it did open up a revenge arc option. In all, there are 4 ways this quest can end, and I'm interested to see how many people picked the ones other than stay as Madeline's cash cow!
There were parts of this quest that I had to rush more than I wanted to owing to the constraints of time as my real life has been consistently insane since about summer last year. I may well go back later and flesh those out a bit, such as by adding more girls for Missy to sell herself to in the Red Light District and putting in new home events with Madeline. In an ideal world, this quest would have been twice as long as it was and featured an even deeper descent into servitude. But hey, got to save something for later. If you chose to enslave or turn in Madeline, Chloe flees, while in the other endings she's still around anyway. This is unlikely to be the last we see of her...
From a technical standpoint, this one was a bit of a nightmare to implement and has thrown up bugs through the playtesting, supporter and even public release stages. Major modifications had to be made to the house and an imperfect system for governing Madeline's location created. But now the bones are in place for you to have a servant/mistress at home if you chose to keep her!

Barring some major upset in the school council poll, the next quest to be implemented will be Jess's relationship quest. This will feature a willing submission option. As to the broader points, a lot of the problem is the limitations of making a game with multiple choices. Not all stories will be blackmail-focused, (and it'd get boring if they were,) it's just that's how the implementation order happens to have fallen with both Reign of Jess and Slave to Love coming in quick succession. With wanting to have stories such as those, where the kink is loss of control and being beholden to the will of another, it necessitates forcing some of the character's behaviour. I'm constantly walking the line between players who want their Missy to have more agency and those who want to be dommed by every girl they see. Of course, in a real-life BDSM relationship, the sub ultimately has all the power as they can end it any time. I'm in the business of servicing the kink of that not being the case. I know I can't please everyone all the time, but I try to ensure the game has something for everyone without falling into the trap of pleasing no one.

I have a question regarding the submission on quests, as the majority of them revolves around blackmail and forcing people to do what you want (or being forced). Do you plan to make quests for willing submission, like missy actually choosing to submit without being forced first? (there are some options where we can choose to stay as a slave or in a submissive position but it's more like giving up or just enjoying the humiliation) Sometimes I feel like being a sub is too degrading and the fact that missy keeps saying she's unconfortable or doesn't want to do things but are being forced to makes me uncomfortable. That is the reason I play most of the quests domming even though I would prefer to do otherwise. I really enjoy the story and wanted to be able to see diferent types of giving up control, like missy asking to be dominated but still having her wishes respected and not being completly desregarded as a slave that has no will of her own or being more "bratty" and being put in her place (but not actually doing anything she wouldn't really want to). I'm aware a lot of that has to do with the structure of the world and the main story with missy's moms, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to ask. The closest I think we got to that was with Abbie and Lola (because of the feelings involved) and with the prefects (which are one of my favorite events - I wish they weren't random), I really like that with the prefects you can choose to be at their mercy and they don't degrade you that much, it's comfortable. As for Madeline, with the whole selling her out thing I ended up enjoying more the revenge and turning her in. So that's my request for more "bratty" quests or just an option to be submisse that's not so "abusive" towards missy. I really enjoy your game and wish you the best in developing. I apologize for the length of the comment but it is something that I have been thinking of for a while. (Ps: if there are any mistakes, english is not my first language, so please keep that in mind)
