Yes, 'magical' is the right title for such an amazing and complex backstory. The most impressive entertainment I've ever purchased at "depression level" prices! Fantastic imagery and some of the best Lackadaisy artwork ever. Can't say enough about how just plain good it is... cats truly ARE the "criminal masterminds" of the animal world, one of my favorite quotes ever!

If this were a more Victorian setting, he definitely has just the right combination of style, brooding studiousness, and habitual murder to pull off an aristocratic vampire archetype. A dreadfully short, floofier variety, though.

Thanks for the thoughtful (and exceptionally kind) feedback! It's been fun working with some colors other than sepia for these flashbacks. This page underwent a couple rounds of layout revision before it arrived at where it is too...I think it was worth it, though. I'm glad you seem to have enjoyed it! =D

Mordecai's personal embodiment of Maitre Carrefour... brilliant. I am not going to lie, I did not see this comparison coming. I knew Atlas was important to Mordecai, but this last page is just brimming with back-story. Many have already commented profusely on use of lighting, so anything I have to say on the matter will seem repetitive: beautiful contrast between Mordecai and Atlas (they both have half their faces lit in the last few vignettes, the opposite of each other: different faces of the same coin?), and I agree with those who have definitely done great justice at commenting on the marvel of the tunnel lighting. Furthermore, as others have said, wonderful use of sepia tones with blue as a flashback tool. The pages are getting better and better with each update, and it looks as if the use of color is increasing. All of this makes my day.

Interesting, I've been quite curious what Atlas did to make such a profound impression on Mordecai. The guy seems to have an incredible force of presence, though, so I think any gesture would have a far-reaching impact. I love the way you depict him!
