Color Scripting
🕑 Added 2024-08-07 02:46:20 +0000 UTCThe color script from Lackadaisy Ingenue, and some of the subsequent background paintings. Color scripting is a part of the production process in which the scene to scene color palette is decided.
The purpose of a color script is to create an overarching picture of how colors shift and change and cohere and communicate in conjunction with the other story elements in a sequence of shots. It's a very powerful tool for establishing mood, atmospherics, and consistent color symbolism before getting into the more nitty-gritty, specific work. It also informs the background artists and the compositors on how to approach painting, lighting, and color adjusting/color grading each shot.
If it's something Patrons have an interest in seeing, I can share more of the color script work for upcoming season episodes!

I knew this was an element to production, but I didn't realize how it actually worked in practice! I would love to see more things like this from the process.

I adore color scripts! Thanks for sharing!!

Yeah, it was intentional to go with a sort of muted and soft, but still overall warm looking palette like that - something sepia-like, but without being too monochromatic. We were trying to evoke the feeling of a distant, fond memory.

I don't know if this was intentional or not, but I love how the choices of colors with the browns and beiges mimic the sepia filter from the older chapters of the comic. As well as the purple and blue shadows, it's like a reference to when the newer chapters were becoming more colorized. It's incredibly nostalgic! Thank you Tracy for sharing these incredible works 😊❤️

In live film the process is almost the same. With wet film is far more complex the skills to develop and colour grade wet film is rare. In the old days of hand painting animation the colour skills of the painters was on an other level.

Color scripting looks like a character remembering something that happened

I never knew that this was a step in the production process, it's all really interesting. I'm excited to experiment around with this type of process to see if it helps with the atmospheres in my own art! I would love to see more colour scripts in the future! I love seeing people's processes for things!

I loved this I like everything is so abstract before all the details go into place. Just say on my bed admiring every little detail in the garage. Might sound weird but I could fell the texture in each image. It's beautiful please keep sharing the amazing work you ans the team do Tracy. It's beautiful. :3

I don’t know much about animation, I’m not exactly a creative person I lack any sort of talent, but I’ve always been interested in behind the scenes information. It’s always incredible to see all the hard work and effort you and the team put into the show and I’d be more than happy to see more behind the scenes stuff as you go along and get a closer look at the animation process!
