And Claudia, who can give him advice, wasn't on the island. So maybe that's why he eventually acted like an idiot — because no one could bring him to his senses. Hahaha.

There is a shot where Gilbert stands in front of the fireplace, and that makes him look as if he were on fire. Combining what Claudia said to Violet, that might be the reason he didn't want to come back -- he is still trapped in the trauma of the war. Then he chose to disappear, because Violet will remind him of the war and his guilt.

Many people didn’t understand that if Gilbert came back, he would have to report to the military office. As his tool, Violet would also have to return to the military. This is one point that didn’t come across — and he wouldn’t want that. And this is the one reason, they don't come back to laiden and stay on that island. I'm on team love this movie!!

i've been only to a few of the watch parties - but this was so much fun! Thanks Sarah and Adam for sharing your time watching these anime live with us! I wish you all the best and will miss you, but i will continue watching your reactions anyway haha PS - i love that Claudia is a nobrainer for your top 2/3! love that Sarah called him the superstar of this movie haha, and also .. it was funny that Sarah can't overlook 97% of Dietturd's past behavior ahahha

I saw it a few weeks ago - completely soaked a couple of handkerchiefs. It’s the most emotional I’ve been in a film and on par with a couple of books.
