As amazing as that would be I can't imagine Leonard agreeing to it. I'd imagine Joe would pester him about specifics of his work with LSD in a way that Leonard wouldn't appreciate. It's a shame that Leonard still clearly feels fear around talking about this history. Hopefully someone will get the information before it's too late!

For your computer, turn it off and start it in safe mode (hold shift after power on till it has loaded the os). That will stop it from loading anything except the OS and you can uninstall dropbox or troubleshoot from there

I respect you so much and to hear you say on your platform that it can be a little off putting how much people invest in colonizing on Mars when we already have many concerns and issues we could focus that energy towards by fixing our own planet, it's honestly a breath of fresh air. I've been bringing this concern up for years but so many people glamorize NASA, exploring space etc. which is interesting but we could focus more of that energy/ excitement/ resources towards more pressing issues. I think people have given up on this planet tbh however I think it's actually not that far off to have faith in healing our home especially with more like minded people waking up to the work we have to do. Also more people starting to adopt a solar punk mindset and learning how to create self sustaining communities/ eco farms that aid the planet and our community is so beneficial to the steps we need to take towards that goal in mind.

Regarding the question of the net effect that concrete had on CO2 levels: I assume that the concrete was produced outside of Biosphere 2, and poured in place before it was sealed off from the rest of Earth's atmosphere. Wouldn't the carbon emissions side of the equation then be removed, leaving only the absorption of CO2 by the concrete after Biosphere 2 was sealed off from the rest of the Earth's atmosphere?

Fantastic information about biosphere 2. When I was younger I found this project so fascinating. I had no idea they actually moved mangroves from nature into the biosphere that’s incredible. I really appreciate this one thanks Hamilton.

I just read Norman Ohler's "Tripped" and at the end he does have an extended anecdote about treating his Mom with "LSD" for her Alzheimer's, which left a little bit of a sour taste in my mouth. First off, this is a single sample, with no control, and when people read these things the tend to take it as gospel, instead of a colorful anecdote. Everyone wants a miracle cure for an issue that effects themselves or loved one. Second, he's getting his LSD from the blackmarket, and he never mentions getting it tested, or verifying it is actually LSD and not 1P-LSD or some other compound. Third, no verification of dosage. Fourth, its possible his mother's improvement was due to his father and him being more engaged with his mother, rather than drug effects. There was some interesting stuff in that book about ergot production, but really that book could have been a single chapter at the end of his previous book "Blitzed" (which was a great read). I think if you combined Ohler's "Tripped" with Alan Piper's "Strange Drugs Make For Strange Bedfellows" you'd have enough material for a great 10 page article, but definitely wasn't worth stretching into 2 books (although Piper's was short). I did enjoy Ohler on this podcast, FYI. Alan Piper would be an interesting guest, he wrote "Albion Dreaming" and "Divine Rascal" (about Michael Hollingshead) which were both really good books. Additionally...a single sample anecdote: Denis 'Jun Po' Kelly (part of the Clearlight LSD network) took LSD in large doses for years and ended up getting Parkinson's with related dementia (another neurodegenerative disease), so it may not be an effective preventative for the brain. His "biography", A Heart Blown Open, was absolute trash, not worth reading at all. Very little info on LSD, chemistry, manufacturing, distribution and made me question how involved he actually was in that system.

Wow, I had never heard of the Biosphere 2 before, probably because it happened before I was born. But what an ambitious project! Watched the documentary right after this podcast. And to say the least, I was deeply moved. Although the documentary portrayed the amazing capability of human spirit, I was shocked to see that even back then the media was already myopically focused on nitpicking small errors instead of framing them into context. I recommended the documentary to everyone who enjoyed this podcast! Also has a beautiful soundtrack

I'm very interested in any more information about microdosing psilocybin for dementia patients. I keep hearing anecdotes about this (e.g. Amanda Fielding and Norman Ohler, both people you have interviewed, and now Deborah Snyder). However I can find very little research on this. The only notable study I'm aware of is the one being run by Dr. Albert Garcia-Romeu at Johns Hopkins, although he is studying the use of psilocybin to treat depression in people with early stage Alzheimer's disease, not specifically to improve cognitive function.
