Thank you for the content Hamilton! Very interesting conversation. This guy knows what's up - especially in regard to the importance of allosteric sites and allosteric modulators. Maybe even more exciting than targeting NMDA allosteric sites is the selective targeting of metabotropic glutamate receptors (mGlu5, mGlu2-3). There are already a number of mGlu allosteric modulating compounds (PAMs and NAMs) that are used in research, however I have never heard of anyone ever trying them. I've always felt that someone should :)

Why are patents/patentability so important to the economics of pharmacology? Is it just the aversion to having done research that other companies will profit from?
