Thank you for the chapter!

Jeanean

Yes, but also no. Having as many tools as possible in a life or death situation is a good thing. But only if A: you have at least some experience with the tool, which won't be the case with an entirely new branch of magic. And B: the tools is actually of any real use. And until now the one consistent thing about all magic has been that the first spell granted is fairly useless on its own. Sure, Nature magic MIGHT be useful if she could level it up enough before attempting to break out, but doing so would be pretty obvious to her wardens. More importantly, Elves are kind of the best Nature magic users in the world, and probably know EXACTLY how to counter that affinity in any given situation and way. The only real way I see for Syl to successfully escape would be through means that the Elves simply can't expect, and thus not prepare for. Considering how old, powerful and knowledgeable the Elves are, that probably her Slime abilities and nothing else.

Omnax

She should be wearing her guild tag, so it wasn't in her core storage.

Omnax

She is in a potential life or death situation. Having as many tools at her disposal is helpful. She didn't know what she would get from nature magic, so she bought it. She does know what she'll get for dimension magic, so she can hold off on that.

Joanie

Maybe the tree is something the elf might like about Syl. They do use brown slime so the nature affinity might be a boon to them.

Thanks for the chapter!

Actually, she could probably fake the slime conversion trait in a sense. Keep a seed inside of her, perma-cast grow on it, and eat it as it grows. Very inefficient and slow, but definitely better than nothing.

RainbowCatTopHat

I think I remember that Syl tried eating trees early on and they give a pittance of slime mass. That said even at the worst efficiency, it's a way to turn mana into slime mass and considering Syl's mana she should give it a shot.

RainbowCatTopHat

She gets the point refunded if she gains the affinity naturally later, which means there is never any reason not to buy every derived element she can. Actually double checking I'm only half right, the exact quote is "The trait points invested will be *partially* refunded if the owner gains the extra affinity through other means, such as Ascension." I... don't know what partially refunded means, so it might have been wise for Syl to wait.

Jeanean

Just buying Nature affinity like that is very unlike usual Syl. For one, its pretty obvious that a first-level Spell, even from an advanced element, would help her little in her current situation. And for two, so long as the elves don't kill her, she is in elven territory now. Meaning, she can get her hands on a brown(I think it was brown at least) slime core which should directly give her the affinity. Considering how much of a point-pincher she usually is, this seems strangely careless.

Does it have to be fruit? She’s a slime, can’t she eat the entire tree? And fruits generally have a lot of seeds, so that’s a lot of potential slime even if Syl can’t grow more afterwards. Or maybe repeatedly prune a tree and regrow the branches

Hangman13182

Yeah the dwarves and elves already had a contentious relationship. Add on to that the adventures society being angry once they find out they kidnapped Syl an the elves have a nightmare of a diplomatic crap storm heading their way!!

I'm assuming you can only use bonded companion on monsters, and she already admitted being bonded to the elf princess

Crimson wolf

Quick question, do the elves even suspect that she is a monster? Monsters aren't supposed to have souls if I remember correctly

I think they simply don't know yet. From what I remember of the aftermath their embassy is destroyed and their ambassador heavily injured. I think they'll find out soon, which will start a whole new round of drama.

I'm surprised the elves aren't more concerned about what happened back in dwarven country. One of their own is on the verge of death, and they're responsible for the deaths of a bunch of dwarves.

Daniel Mountain

Well, at least Syl got some decent stuff out of this tragedy. Hopefully she'll get out of Stupid Elf territory quickly, so she can start getting some reserve mass back. Getting her tags re-issued will be a pain, though.

Im suffering syl deprivation. Ive gotten too used to chapters exceeding 3k words by now

> "I wasn't exactly trying to," I replied honestly. If anything, I was trying to press him for a bit of info. I'm not sure if I believe the whole not eating monster meat thing, and I wonder if they're cautious about me eating it and replenishing too much strength." There's a missing " here. Does Syl say the sentence in the middle as well or is that still narration?
