Lunadea

Definitely not one you can wear around in a public setting. Unless you're trying to join an assassins guild or something :D

Lionheart Copperhead

Being a slime does make the spells pretty broken if the aura extends with the pseudopods. Then you can literally coat an entire room with slime and turn it into a giant zone with a magic attribute of choice and then combine that with slime mist.

Sheffi Ben-David

This is all without looking at the slow aspect of the spell too; can she attach it to a fireball's delivery method in order to slow down enemies at range and make them easier to hit with projectile spells? Add it to her icicles to stack even more effects? Does it benefit from Affliction Mastery?

Daniel Mountain

Syl? Dramatic?! Nooooo!

Daniel Mountain

I think Syl's [Apex Hunter] is in the family.

Daniel Mountain

There are uses... but fortunately, an emblem like that can stay buried. Nice proficiency boost, though. And the [Spell Deception] skill will prove quite handy.

Aclys

Considering that manhunter is clearly refering to man as in humanoid, a pretty much universal-sounding "Slayer" as opposed to manslayer or doomslayer etc suggests the necromancer probably caused the death of a lot of different creatures from many different critter types, ie humanoid, monstrous humanoid, beast, elemental, etc. He Was researching ways to elevate the human species to some greater tier after all.

Aclys

Not to mention when paired with the fact that her body is a slime, so it and her aura can go places a normal person's aura spells would not be able to reach without endangering the caster.

Sheffi Ben-David

I wonder how you get the slayer emblem. Is it just the monster version of [manhunter], where you have to kill a certain number of monsters or someone with the manhunter emblem? But that feels like there's no way Syl or at least someone she met wouldn't have had the slayer emblem if it's just number of monsters killed. It must be at least a bit more complicated than that.

Chrystal 1776

Omg I missed that! Thank you. I'm gonna have to keep a Better eye out for those in the future 🤔

Lunadea

Yup! It was on his identify. Terrence [Slayer]

Chrystal 1776

So... Then did that necromancer have the slayer emblem then? I didn't think she'd killed nearly that many humanoids 🤔

Lunadea

No, I believe I've always referred to them as "monstrous humanoids", but I could be wrong. But the intended purpose is that it only works on Humans/Elves/Dwarves/etc. The "civilized" races so to speak.

Chrystal 1776

*blinks* oh gods... That's horrifying... Could she in theory use fire and ice/water magic to create a steamy environment and then overlay several aura spells around her that apply various debuffs automatically and then sneak through the steam to sneak attack anyone unfortunate enough to find themselves within her aura? This way nobody sees the aura spells and with her ability to alternate her color allowing her to hide in the steam better than most she just becomes a steamy phantomy assassin that would be difficult if not impossible for most opponents to deal with 🤔

Kevin McGuire

Well now I want to know what the slayer emblem is. Also do Orcs, goblins, and the like cout as humanoids?

Jason Hardman

One issue I see is it's not necessarily stealthy, so likely can't front load it when attacking.

Lunadea

Syl being a bit dramatic

Chrystal 1776

I could totally see manipulating an ice dome spell into an igloo and forcing people to fight you within your aura if they want to get to you. Could be really nasty if you're holding a choke point and your enemies have no choice but to go through you 🤔

Jason Hardman

Not the interpretation I'd take from that emblem.

Sheffi Ben-David

Aura of burning in general is already pretty scary, like a constant Nova spell. Could have potential for sure.

Sheffi Ben-David

Only water magic left to get to level 5; I wonder what kind of spell it'll give, since the intermediate spells seem to focus on concepts that can be applied to other spells rather than being powerful on their own. A water jet? That's both powerful on its own and introduces the concept of pressurizing streams of water. I'm also sort of expecting Syl to get offered a new class once they level past 20 in shadowcaster and get water magic to 5. Excited to see what that looks like.

Lunadea

Aura of burning acid when?

brennon Petersen

Tftc!

Sheffi Ben-David

Glacial aura is a terrifying spell in terms of its implications. Both the slowing concept and the altering your aura to create effects in it seems super useful and starting to get into really esoteric stuff that's hard to counter. Love it.
