The bits on glyphs explains why Tresnia was so excited about her glyph. She drew freehand one that dealt with the required temperature for a specific alchemical reaction. From the grading, it was at least level 2.

"I should be able to focus on maneuvering with the cloak and then defend myself with a timely talisman, or something else." I imagine in most cases it would be more practical to flip the tools. The cloak is great at defence, use it for that. Then use some speed talismans or something to aid in your movement.

Thanks for the chapter!

"laws exist for a reason," - true, it is just that the reasons aren't necessarily good, or just good for the ones that wanted the law

A fair criticism. I do think there is some caveats I could offer. Regarth obviously doesn't expect much knowledge from it's students. After all both Lily and Rose came from an orphanage so their education is going to be far below what a noble could get. Instead regarth seems more interested in potential. We are also only in the second week of classes and I imagine a lot of the first semester is going to be making sure everyone has the same level of education that regarth thinks they need. Therefore they are starting at the common knowledge type stuff first. I think the lack of knowledge, experimentation, and what I would call love of magic that would result in a more realistic world might have a lot to do with Arakil being sealed away. Arakil is basically everything this society isn't, it wouldn't surprise me if either his sealing caused some weird feedback or the gods intentionally created an environment where another Arakil wouldn't happen.

Will gently say book 2 has so far been a bit of a let down. I absolutely loved book 1 and the novel quickly became one of my favorites. But book 2 has leaned really far into the “magical society that operates on blind ignorance or laziness” trope. It’s a trope that made me drop books like supreme magus and others sadly. What I mean by this trope is the most dedicated and talented members of this society basically all follow the clearly wrong way of doing magic. Brute forcing spells with bloodlines—even though greater efficiency would give better effects, not leveraging glyphs—a weird aversion to a very useful and powerful school of magic that pares well with bloodlines ink even and only requires some practice; something an aspiring mage going to a top school should be fine doing, not to mention intentional lack of experimentation. The last one has been hinted it’s hampered by the nations rules. But this has seemed quite forced so far and mainly makes for a boring schooling experience when basic and common sense modifications apparently shock even veteran enchanters. And then there is just how lackluster regarth has been. Basically everything has been useless or easy mode since she arrived here. This class teaches nothing useful. That class is covering basics that it feels like would have been covered by any tutoring that these top students would have received before regarth in order to qualify for this school. Tons of students lack basic knowledge, despite being the best of the best getting into the top school of this nation. Dungeons are a little one dimensional and lacking with monster being extremely weak and robotic, not even responding until you approach them. I know this is a cozy progression fantasy novel so I didn’t expect grueling life and death scenarios. But the dungeon so far has seem unrealistically simplistic. Classes and electives also feel too few for a school that teaches the next generation of spell casters for the nation. All in all the school stuff so far besides the familiar entry exam has felt lacking to me, and the state of magic in this world seems too broken/dysfunctional. I could see this being realistic if in a society that banned magic altogether. But for a society that actively has magic school and trains mages? Seems weird that common sense things like more perfect casting and more efficiency as well as simple spell /glyph ideas like a cloud of acid or something is hard to think of. I’m giving this as constructive feedback after just having read from the start of book 2 to the current chapter. I still like the book. But it’s definitely been lacking compared to the content of book 1. I get that knowledge wise the school won’t be able to provide tons of new knowledge to Lilly given her odd affinity + access to arakil. But these classes could of still been made worthwhile/useful due to having teachers who can actually cast/give examples and access to resources/training aids all things that arakil can’t do and could compliment Lilly’s growth, as well as making it seem like a functioning top tier school. The repeated result of being told these classes aren’t really worth it to Lilly (besides PMC and dungeon exploration class) is a letdown and moderate waste of chapters. Either way hoping the book and school expands from here. I know we are still in the early part of the schooling content. Just so far I haven’t really liked what I have seen, personally.

Thanks for the chapter. Why are you so surprised Lilly?! Lotte clearly had a chip in her shoulder over her relatively worse defense compared to the rest of her friend group. She also doesn’t have an archmage ensuring she doesn’t overexert herself, so she clearly spent every waking hour with even a drop of mana practicing the amazing spell her best friend gave her.
