> “Now that is—” I broke off as a snaking shape crested the eastern hilltop. === Typo: western hilltop

> These hills are not as quiet as dead as they appear. === Typo: not quite as dead

> I glanced eastward at the single mound of earth separating us from the nest. “How do you lure them over?” === It should be “westward” if they’re east of the nest as mentioned last chapter.

tx, but the original message is actually right. The nether toxicity in region is 7, and after mist thin's activation, it goes to 4.

this is a good point, thanks for pointing it out :) Will alter.

What will be more inafter all. (Jaw dropping) is if, at the beginning of the next chapter, we fi d out the nagas can speak, and he can have a pleasant visit with the Naga, just like he did with the thief from Sintar's gang. Just because they have only hissed in the past doesn't mean that they, like the harbringer, can't speak. They are elites, afterall. However, it was a little disappointing to not hear the mammoth harbringer start monologing in the sector behind the rift. Are the nagas required to chant when they cast the void ball spell, or when they infested the portal? Speech from those guys, would be very fun! Micheal would to well to invite Kartara to help interrogate. She would have so many more questions that would be revealing about their nature.

David Brewer

I'd like to add, I'm more than willing to entertain the idea that Loken might actually want things I'd consider "good". But, I'm not actually certain even Tom really knows what Loken’s intent is... and while intentions are a valuable measure of a person... you do have to consider the results. And the results of Loken’s actions thus far I already stated above... and they are horrible.

David Brewer

Loken also slaughtered his entire House and was a major player in the rebellion that resulted in all the overrun sectors and who knows how many deaths. The Adjudicator is the one that set Michael on his path. Loken saw the potential in Michael and sought to co-opt him. He might not be the "big bad" vs the void fathers... but he's definitely been on the naughty list for several millenia. Yes, he helped Michael with the deception skill and a few other specific things... but that was primarily the same self interest that the other Powers exhibited after Michael's class evolved. Edit: re reading book 1, Loken did provide the (option at least) deception skill before the evolution. But even at that point Michael would potentially be "interesting" as the first new player in the safe zone with resources and not already a minion of the Awakened Dead.

David Brewer

He'd need to get the powerful acolyte mark too. If he advances the wolf mark it would be pack patriarch... and that's all. Whereas, if he gets both it would allow him to "level up" his Ascendant class. That wouldn't be all good as I suspect becoming a Power in truth vs the transition state he's presently at would prevent him from attacking non-Powers (likely not applicable to stygians... the game hates them after all). But I also suspect it might earn him another trait like Bold Blood, because having his Ascendant class allows him to reach 300 so he'd advance to Young Blood early, akin to assuming an Ascendant class early. Worth noting that with 3 more stygian Powers in his sector it is feasible that he'll get both here.

obiwann

Sometimes I wonder if Loken is the real big bad we think he is. In many ways Loken set up MC down his path.. just saying.

obiwann

Oh man… isn’t his next or near next wolf mark deepening due to advance him? What’s next I forget.

mark janson

It has to be willing. He can’t infect any unwilling subjects with lycanthropy.

David Brewer

True, but my logic was the Adjudicator might reward him for saving a sector, or perhaps if he's able to actually kill the tree. But it is absolutely possible his only physical reward will be having a secret sector. And to be fair, I've been somewhat assuming that giving Wolf a secret base will deepen his mark which wouldn't be a bad consolation prize... but loot is fun.

Kyle Garfield

With were's bite, are there resistance checks happening each time he attacks with 'tooth' or does he have to 'mean it' for the resistance check to occur?

obiwann

He has to be awarded a feat tho…

Kyle Garfield

My memory of Michael's time in Draven’s Reach was that chests appeared only when he defeated the normal dungeon elites. He killed significant amounts of stagians and seeds without any kind of loot chests. He was still rewarded by Draven and with natural results of his deeds, but no loot. The game seems to have other types of rewards for fighting the void, like extra life He was awarded on is first rift run. In this case, he hopes to be rewarded with a sector he can claim that won't be bothered by anyone else.

David Brewer

As I said, Loken figuring it out isn't the issue. He knows. And I suspect if he wasn't worried about that chalice from the Awakened Dead... he'd be full on hunting Michael now. It's whether or not Michael can convince the Powers that a known liar is lying. This in my opinion is the value of Safyre. Which faction... ever... has had Powers sworn to different ideals? So when Safyre is presented... it creates doubt about Michael not being lightsworn. Without requiring him to "prove" he isn't Wolf. But yes, I'll agree. Rescuing Saya will probably out him as an up and coming Power. That's why it's so vital he becomes valuable to multiple factions so they'll WANT to believe that Loken is just playing games again. It's Loken, nobody trusts him. Honestly, it's the best way to deal with someone like Loken. You can't possibly outfox him... he would be the guy that taught Machiavelli how to think in circles. So you use his propensity for being sneaky to convince everyone else he's being sneaky. Edit: I'll confess it IS a risky plan. But it's more of a plan B. If Loken try to out him as Wolf because "insert reason" he lies and uses the fact that Safyre is a lightsworn Power to help sell the lie.

Prakash Alagarsamy

Normally that will be a great long term plan. But Micheal has to rescue saya in a infiltration/ extraction mission. His skills will show a discerning person micheal is much higher level than what it shows. And since loken is the OG cunning guy, he will figure it out. The showdown is closer than we think is my opinion

David Brewer

Maybe not. If he manages to make peace in the sector containing the Roost the prospect of getting access to the super awesome sectors being horded by the Awakened Dead might keep some of the factions from immediately hating on Michael. Particularly given that he's been clever to hide his wolfiness and while Loken does know and can tell people... Loken is known liar. Meaning that Michael could argue that Loken is claiming he's (Michael) a wolf because Loken is trying to get sole access to that sector.

David Brewer

Normally, I'd venture it's a no. That's what the endless dungeon is for. But, given the stygian invasion it might in this situation.

Arjun Rajesh

Are you rewarded by the game with chests in a kingdom sector? It would be good for you to get a chest of atleast some reward other than levels

Prakash Alagarsamy

This book is set for an exciting finish. No doubt about it. But I am very much going to enjoy the next arc of rescuing saya. Loken is assuming our boy to be a distant threat. He will be shocked on finding him to be a minor power within 2 months of last meeting him. From book 10, our boy is going to be persona non grata for all powers.

These hills are not as quiet as dead, not sure quiet is the right word.

Jaw dropped with the enslave… I know our boy has a lot of tools at his disposal but how he chooses to execute.. man it’s always fun being surprised. TFTC!!

I always enjoy these chapters where Michael is killing antagonists and progressing his levels and skills. I do miss the loot chests from his dungeon-diving days, however.

The way I rush to read my chapters like a granny and her soaps…. I will say though, I’m not sure this “ not as quiet as dead as” shouldn’t just be “not quite as dead as”.

Now that he's killing things with his mouth, you might want to have him comment on how that tastes Also, I'm struggling to picture the mechanics of him sliding around on a wind slide while biting things. Seems like a good way to lose some teeth Can't wait to see how this all ends though
