Tom Elliot (Rohan Vider)

unless there is more than one instance of the trial... or not all the spirits gave up their essence.

Tom Elliot (Rohan Vider)

or maybe enough? :P

Tom Elliot (Rohan Vider)

As for Nyra. Again, the mistake being made is the assumption she is dying/going to die for Michael. She is not. She is not doing anything as simple as that. This is not about personal loyalty. Its about the sector/the faction/the Pack. Remember, Nyra is a scion herself now, meaning she feels the same obligation to protect the Pack that michael does. Has Michael put himself in harms way, and/or taken huge risks on behalf of the pack? of course he has. Why would Nyra not do the same? Especially considering she has Michael as her role model? It may be a bit naive of her (in keeping with her portrayal as a young player/woman) and it may be that she is overly enarmored with michael's approach (again, realistic considering he saved her, plucked her out of new haven, guided her, and funded her with a whole host of gifts), but I wouldn't call it video game logic.

Tesset

But why? How is that going to change anything? The guardians are dependent on players providing them with power by running dungeons and gathering those emblems. But no player is going to do that. A better backup would be to secure a minor second base somewhere and make sure that some of the people don’t participate in the fight. Or it would just be better to tell Nyra not participate in the battle and if they lose the fight to wait for Ceruvax or in the event he doesn’t come to go find him, and then find someone else to take the guardian’s place.

Tom Elliot (Rohan Vider)

Well, I think you are missing a few things. Let's start with the nagians. The nagians are former scions (warriors/soldiers, whatever you want to call them) who did not side with the new Powers and who lived through the war in which the Houses were destroyed. They are in many respects defeated soldiers of a war they still remember vividly. Would such soldiers be willing to rejoin such a war? Yes. Is this video game logic? No. The mistake you are making here is thinking that they are fighting for michael. They are not. They are fighting for cause they already believe in, and which Michael so happens to represent.

Tesset

I partially agree with you. Part of the problem is that most players are transmigrated into the world in their adult life with absolutely no memory of who they are. (Which sometimes makes me wonder how can you have brothers and sisters, like the twins? I can’t remember if they were born in the kingdom. But then where are their parents?) Most players are missing the formative years of their lives. So you can’t ask: Where did you grown up? what’s your mother like? what’s your father like? were you bullied? were you popular? you have trauma? why? what caused it? you like ice-cream with bacon? why, did you mother take you to some thrifty little restaurant when you were young and that your favourite thing on their menu? etc. If you ask them, “what they are you about?” Technically they shouldn’t be able to tell you anything. But on the other hand you have some that have lived for centuries, I would expect them to have several hundred children and deep connections with many people and have tones of interests. But also you should keep in mind that this world is just very different from our own. They would think and act differently then us.

Jason Hornbuckle

Every member of the forerunners can leave at any time. Why wouldn't you just do that vs fight a no hope battle with no safe zone

obiwann

Rationale is purpose

obiwann

It’s the game world … they can fight and die for nothing… or something

Jason Hornbuckle

Michael promised them heavy casualties and they don't even know him. I just think there needs to be a rationale

Prakash Alagarsamy

Ha ha. No. Our world is different. But in this world most of the players are combatants. They fight either for a cause or for themselves. A faction like blades have 1000 players. Do you think they all have personal connections. They do what they need to survive. Safyre has been there. She saw life giving another chance and see took it.

Jason Hornbuckle

so you'd be willing to fight and die for the cashier at your local coffee shop because you have a personal connection?

Prakash Alagarsamy

Partially true. With safyre he did forge a personal connection by giving a name and talking to her. With ceruvax, he showed results by ascending to wolf lord, saving him from a dungeon. With nagians- they are under his mercy. They were in a limbo. They are also scions. He basically gave them a purpose in life. But I really don't like nyra being pawned off. She should have been drugged and sent off with sulan as an insurance for continuation of house wolf in case micheal failed. There is absolutely no need to replace kolanth now. I don't know what the author is planning.

obiwann

That was what happened in runeguard lmao

Jason Hornbuckle

I don't want this to sound too critical but there is too much video game logic in these people who Michael barely ever interacts with being undyingly loyal to him no matter what he tells them to do He's barely even ever interacted with Nyra. As soon as they got to the Eastern Marches he pawned her off on Adriel, then he pawned her off on the twins. Then she gets back home, he says "wassup" and then he's gonna tell her she needs to sacrifice herself? Same with the rest of the forsworn and the nagians and all that. They just have no reason at all to be like "Oh cool we're gonna die tomorrow! USA! USA!". He has not spent any time at all forging personal relationships with these people. Even Saf, their connection is that he used to buy stuff from her? At least with the wolves you can say that they're pumped about House Wolf, but these other people are strangers to him. Even Ceruvax, they talked for like an hour and the guy is supposed to be his envoy. It feels like a quest in a video game to raise an army more than it feels like anything else. He needs to invest some time in actually interacting with these guys in order for this loyalty to really make sense

obiwann

Not enough Arjun…. Not enough

obiwann

They have implied it’s her choice… so she knows what may be asked I guess. Im surprised too tho… feel like it’s a huge disservice to house wolf.

Jason Hornbuckle

what does Nyra even think she's doing here btw?

obiwann

Was this written or assumed? I’m trying to visualize how big a elven phantom is

Orion_777

It's a safeguard just in case everyone dies

Orion_777

he cast it in human form

Tesset

Which also makes me curious how she awakened a blood memory. I thought the spirits of the dead scions who had attempted the mind trial were used up to awaken Micheal’s blood memory (secret blood). So there shouldn’t have been any left for Nyra.

Tesset

I don’t think she will. It would have been pointless from a storytelling perspective to give her the blood memory otherwise. Most likely the gang has already reached the guardian and are just waiting for Micheal.

Michael valerio

I agree but there is a lot of foreshadowing

Arjun Rajesh

Wooho I'm so excited plus could you please t ell how many left till February (chapters) and whether we will get the battle in these chapters

Jason Hornbuckle

It doesn't really make any sense for her to be one

Michael valerio

I for one would not like to see Nyra become the guardian. I don’t think that’s fair for her or house wolf.

obiwann

If he was an elder wolf.. then cast doppelgänger is this person huge? Or did he transform back to human form?

Olivier Combe

I just thought a cleared level would stay cleared until the dungeon was completed, but yeah I guess they repop everyday anyway

Tesset

Tftc! But I don’t get the rush to replace the guardian, couldn’t they do this after they take the sector?

Tesset

No, it said that it’s repopulated every day

Joshua Adams

Geez, it sure would suck to lose one of the few semi main characters when he sees the others so infrequently.

mark janson

Tftc ❤️

Olivier Combe

I'm not sure why he is surprised that the last boss chamber is opened, when he first entered the dungeon it said that 4 of 5 bosses where left, so if he killed the first 4 bosses then it was obvious that the last one was supposed to be dead already. What I don't understand is how anriq & co managed to get to the last boss without killing the ones before? Or they repoped? Aren't they supposed to stay dead until the whole dungeon is cleared?

Marco Ramon

I must say, I hadn’t considered Bacheus. I could imagine that the current plan is for him, as one of the possessed who were once Scions, to take Kolath’s place. However, there could be complications since, strictly speaking, he’s no longer a player (though the same could have been said for Adriel’s brother). Nyra seems to be the backup plan as a true player, ensuring that the Guardian can definitely be awakened.

Marco Ramon

” Hello, my name is Michael, and today I’m attempting to break the world record for the Guardian Tower speedrun.”
